Summary

The Sr. Associate Actuary, Actuarial Integration & Modernization ALM primary responsibilities are to support the projects within the Actuarial Department and the associated impact related to ALM. In addition, this position assists with modernization of our processes.

Organization

This position reports to the AVP, Actuarial Integration & Modernization ALM and will have up to 1 direct report.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with testing the actuarial forecasting model in relationship to any projects and the projecting of:
    • Statutory Reserves
    • US GAAP Reserves
    • Product features and benefits, including reinsurance
    • Asset Adequacy Testing
    • ALM and Duration
    • Tax Reserves
  • Collaboration with Actuarial Models, Actuarial ALM, Actuarial Valuation, Finance, and Reinsurance
  • Support Modernization lead in providing status updates to senior management on tasks mentioned above.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of all work is a high priority for this position as key management decisions are made based on the work performed under the auspices of this position.
  • Review of operational procedures and identification of areas of improvement and efficiencies.
  • Ad hoc activities as requested.
  • Actively seek methods for continuous improvement with actuarial, accounting and recordkeeping functions through process or systems initiatives. Drive work around modernization efforts, including software, process redesign and philosophy.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, or other related area.
  • Minimum ASA with progress towards FSA and MAAA preferred.
  • 4 years of related individual life and annuity actuarial experience.
  • Experience managing a team preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational, computer, and team skills.
  • Solid understanding of insurance company income statements and balance sheets.
  • Fixed indexed annuity knowledge preferred but not required.
  • Prior use of actuarial reporting systems – Axis preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Self-starter who can develop policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Demonstrates initiative and a strong desire to understand and solve problems.
  • Willingness to ask questions and propose improvements.
  • High degree of ownership for their areas of responsibility.
  • Strong problem-solving skills that include advanced analytical and reasoning abilities. Demonstrate ability to apply actuarial principles to complex situations.
  • Support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals while possessing consultation and change management skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment to personal and professional development by seeking feedback, remaining open to criticism, and working through a personal development plan; demonstrates an openness to change and actively leads change.

Other Requirements

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects as assigned.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Some travel required (less than 10%).
