They are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Specialist to join their finance team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of the organization while gaining valuable experience in accounting and payroll functions.

Position Overview: The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for performing various accounting tasks, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting. In addition, this role will involve managing payroll processes and ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, payroll, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Accounting Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts payable transactions, including verifying invoices, coding expenses, and preparing payments.
  • Handle accounts receivable tasks, such as invoicing customers, monitoring aging reports, and following up on outstanding balances.
  • Maintain the general ledger by posting journal entries and reconciling accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare financial reports and assist with variance analysis as needed.
  • Manage payroll processes, including processing timesheets, calculating wages, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Process payroll tax payments and filings accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and employees.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve issues promptly.
  • Stay informed about changes in payroll regulations and standards, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Assist with other accounting tasks and projects as assigned by management.

Accounting Specialist Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with exposure to payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and payroll principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements is a plus.
  • CPP or progress toward CPP certification is a plus.
