The Position:
As a Registered Nurse- Pre-Op and Recovery PACU at Panorama Eyecare, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to deliver the best eyecare. The Role
The RN in Pre-Op/PACU provides expert professional nursing care during the pre and post-operative course. The RN assesses implements and evaluates the care of the patient. The nurse will assure that the patient is prepared for discharge to a home environment by providing the necessary education to the patient and their responsible caregiver.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Works with members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient, throughout their surgical experience.
  • Maintains a friendly, positive and professional attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
  • Assists in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Surgery Center.
  • Monitors the use of all supplies during patient stay. Assists with inventory control and stocks accordingly.
  • Documents patient care appropriately.
  • Maintains continuing education to meet state requirements and keep current with health care.
  • Displays professionalism at work and in the community, as a representative of the Surgery Center.
  • Takes an active role on committees within the department.
  • Identifies actual and potential risks to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risks and maximize safety.
  • Performs charge nurse responsibilities as needed.
  • Makes pre-op calls to ensure pre-op patient has all pertinent information for surgery including: NPO status, ride home, meds, etc.
  • Prepares for arrival of patients to the surgery center by making sure that proper supplies and equipment are available.
  • Reviews patient charts for health history and to assure that the necessary pre-operative evaluations have been completed. Makes sure Surgical Summary and consents are completed. Ensure H&P is accurate and up to date.
  • Completes Medication Reconciliation on all patients, to include allergies.
  • Admits and prepares patients for surgery/Laser Procedures at the Surgery Center.
  • Provides ongoing information to the patient and their caregiver to assure that they understand and feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Does assessments of patient, starts IV and administers necessary medications as ordered.
  • Communicates with other health care team members to assure continuity of care in the Surgery Center.
  • Receives patient into the recovery room after surgery. Assesses and evaluates the patient. Monitors the patient continuously during their recovery phase. Documents the status of the patients and administers care accordingly.
  • Incorporates a sense of wellness by allowing the patient's family to be reunited with them as soon as feasible and encouraging self-care by the patient.
  • Provides discharge instructions to the patient and their caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding throughout the giving of instructions.
  • Sufficiently navigates NextGen through electronic medical records
  • Provides follow up and assessment for the patient by calling the patients at home according to protocol.
  • Prepares for emergency situations by knowing the Policies and Procedures of the Surgery Center.
  • Attends all Mandatory Staff Meetings
  • Understands and implements all Surgery Center and Panorama Eye Policies and Procedures.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.

  • Preferred accomplishments include experience in Ophthalmology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and able to work compatibly with all physicians and staff of the Surgery Center.
  • Ability to possess strong organizational skills, be efficient, and understand the importance of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an ambulatory surgery setting.
  • Knowledge and clinical skills to perform the above job duties.
  • Ability to make quick assessments of patients and able to handle emergency situations effectively and quickly.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility in week to work various days and shifts.
  • Demonstrates Age Specific Competencies for Adult and Pediatric Patients.
  • Assists in new employee Orientation and Training.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance to all Surgery Center and Panorama Eye Policies.
Education/Certifications/Experience:
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing and has a valid Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license. Must provide proof of license and be in good standing.
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS (completed within 3 months of employment).
  • Two years of pre-operative, recovery room, intensive care or emergency room experience is desired.
Additional Job Details
  • Works at The Surgery Center of Northern Colorado location.
  • This is a Full-Time Position. (30 hours expected weekly)
  • We enjoy a M-F work schedule.
  • Compensation for this role will begin at $42 an hour based on experience/certification.
