Rock County, Wisconsin (pop. 160,420) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel. Rock County is located in South Central Wisconsin along the Illinois border. Janesville, Wisconsin (pop. 63,588) is the county seat. Janesville is located on the I39/90corridor forty miles south of Madison, seventy-six miles west of Milwaukee and about two hours from Chicago.
The office of the Rock County Corporation Counsel is seeking a dynamic, self-starting, creative legal mind to fill a position as an Assistant Corporation Counsel. This specific Assistant Corporation Counsel’s primary responsibilities include representing the interests of the public in proceedings under Chapter 51 (civil commitments), 54 (petitions for guardianship), & 55 (petitions for protective placement or services) of the Wisconsin Statutes; advising County leaders on legal matters pertinent to the operations of county government, especially concerning the Human Services Department’s operations on matters concerning behavioral health and adult protective services; and provide support and assistance to the Child Support Agency as needed, particularly by covering overflow from the other child support attorneys.
Salary range is $102,024 - $113,235 annually, salary is negotiable we offer a robust set of benefits to our eligible employees that includes health, dental and vision insurance as well as deferred compensation, flexible spending, employee assistance program, a retirement plan through the Wisconsin State Retirement System (WRS)*, life insurance through the Wisconsin State Retirement System as well as several voluntary benefits the employee can participate in. Physical performing elements
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for periods of time.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds, occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to use a computer and computer keyboard.
- Valid driver's license to be able to attend court proceedings.
- Work is indoor legal work in an office building or courthouse.
- Experience in the professional practice of law, including litigation and/or municipal legal experience.
- Graduation from an accredited school of law; and a license in good standing to practice in the State of Wisconsin.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the practice of law, with a specific focus or skills in litigation.
