Hands-on House Children’s Museum of Lancaster is Hiring an Outreach Educator Near Lancaster, PA

Overview:

Hands-On House Children's Museum is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic educator who can represent the museum in a school setting and teach our outreach programs. While at schools, they will create an innovative environment that will promote hands on learning for children in kindergarten through third grade. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, understands how they learn, and is dedicated to creating a nuturing learning context. The Outreach Educator will be responsible for teaching, set up/clean up, and transportation of programs.

Duties:

  • Ensure that the museum's mission is being accomplished through their role, by representing Hands-On House at area elementary schools
  • Teach outreach workshops to K-3rd classes, following established lesson plans
  • Guide and monitor volunteers helping with programs
  • Promote museum programming
  • Set up and clean up materials before, during, and at conclusion of the workshop
  • With support of custodians, carry materials into and out of school buildings
  • Load and transport outreach workshop materials to area elementary schools
  • Communicate broken or worn-out materials to Outreach Coordinator
  • Provide input and evaluation outreach workshops
  • Occasional may be asked to facilitate in-house programs as needed
  • Maintain a safe environment for all students participating in outreach workshops

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree & Teaching Certificate in early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field
  • Valid PA driver's license
  • Previous experience teaching in an early childhood classroom setting
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Dynamic customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Child and criminal security clearances, including fingerprinting, are required

Physical Demands:

  • Regular lifting of up to 25lbs
  • Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands/fingers
  • Will be required to walk, reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time

Training:

  • Outreach educator is expected to bring knowledge of the classroom. They will be trained by current outreach educators and/or the outreach director in the six outreach programs available to area schools. They will shadow the current outreach educator and teach each program with support before they would be expected to teach on their own.

Hours:

  • Schedule varies with minimum hours from September through January (5-15 hours/wk) to 15-30hrs/ week at the height of outreach season (February-May). There are no hours guaranteed June through August unless in-house education or camp responsibilities are taken on.
  • Start time varies based upon program needs
  • Scheduled times would be weekdays
  • Permanent, Part-Time, Hourly Position

Hands-on House Children’s Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating fun learning opportunities for children aged 8 and under. At Hands-on House, adults and children play and learn together. Our exhibits, classes, and programs are short on lectures, and long on interactive, participatory activities.
