Overview:

This position is responsible for the accounting and regulatory reporting activities for the regulated utility companies of LG&E and KU Energy. Performs innovative problem-solving techniques and analyzes and develops solutions with minimal supervision. Makes recommendations regarding principles, methods, and procedures for improvements in techniques used in financial, accounting, and regulatory reporting. Provide advice and guidance to analysts in accounting and personnel in other departments throughout the Company. Process oriented, excellent oral and written communications skills, excellent PC and Microsoft Excel skills, and understanding of federal and state regulatory accounting.

Responsibilities:

Support the monthly close process by preparing complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial calculations for generation, natural gas fuels, materials and supplies inventories, regulatory accruals, prepayments, allowance inventories, leases, burdens, loss contingencies, and regulatory assets and liabilities.

Prepare regulatory accounting and financial statement analyses, including cash flow activity analysis as assigned.

Perform complex financial calculations and prepare financial analyses, reports, and estimates for other departments.

Prepare supporting schedules included in the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC), Virginia State Corporation Commission (VSCC), Energy Information Administration (EIA) and others, including FERC Forms 1, 3 and 60.

Prepare supporting schedules for the KPSC regulatory filings, including Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC), Environmental Cost Recovery (ECR), and Gas Line Tracker (GLT) mechanisms.

Design and prepare complicated financial exhibits used in determining utility revenue requirements for rate cases and prepare responses to data requests from regulatory or other governmental agencies.

Research accounting issues, as necessary, and drafting memos that conclude on the appropriate accounting treatment for the issue.

Provide guidance to others outside the accounting area to ensure the proper coding of accounting items.

Ensures proper process and systems documentation is maintained for accounting functions in compliance with internal control requirements and ensure walk-throughs of controls are performed to ensure controls are functioning as designed.

Utilize Oracle, EiS and PowerPlan systems to analyze accounting activity and prepare reports.

Make recommendations for continuous improvement.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience/Qualfications

Bachelor's degree in accounting required. Requires strong Excel skills and aptitude for accounting information systems. CPA certification and/or Masters degree desirable. Must have working knowledge of accounting principles and their applications to electric and gas utilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Possess above average interpersonal skills for effectively communicating financial explanations and oral/written information to others, both within and outside the corporation. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems. Must have strong attention to detail, organization skills and proficient at analyzing information. Current working knowledge of accounting rules and regulations, including U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), tax requirements, SEC requirements, FERC requirements and other reporting requirements is preferred.
