Job Summary:
The offices and operations of an animal shelter and spay/neuter clinic can be high stress and very busy at times. The Veterinary Technician is responsible for performing skilled work in the intake and care of Blount County Animal Center animals. The position is responsible for ensuring policy and procedure compliance, performing animal care duties, managing animal placement, providing customer service, and performing related clerical tasks. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures. It is a little bit of everything but will be very rewarding to be the voice for those who can’t speak.
Responsibilities:
This position will primarily be focused on the welfare and maintenance of dogs and cats in the shelter. Under the direction of veterinary staff, ensure efficient and accurate examinations for intake of new animals, compassionate treatment for in-house patients, and assist in the daily routines of managing the health of about 150 to 200 animals.
Physical Requirements: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50-100 pounds).
Work Environment: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, temperature and noise extremes, or traffic hazards, pathogens and bio-hazards.
