CALJAN is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist Near Menomonee Falls, WI

Summary of Position:

Under the general direction of the Managing Director, the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist leads Caljan Inc.’s entire U.S. organization in developing and implementing health, and safety and environmental compliance and programs. Works closely with site management to develop and champion safety awareness and compliance on the part of all employees. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees by implementing and maintaining health and safety programs within the organization.

The statements below reflect the general details necessary to describe the principal functions of position and should not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements related to the position.

· Develop and maintain current of EHS systems, policies, and procedures.

· Train employees and management in safe practices (OSHA) including, but not limited to: Hazardous Communications, bloodborne pathogens, respirator use, lock-out/tag-out, forklift operation, fire protection, and safe lifting.

· Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EHS laws, regulations, codes, and rules. Coordinate activities with local fire departments on inspection of facilities.

· Act as Caljan Inc’s representative in dealing with government agencies on EHS matters affecting the Company.

· Coordinate with Caljan’s Group QHSE Manager to share Best Practices and Continuous Improvement for the local site, as well as across the entire group.

· Track KPI’s and report to site management and Group QHSE Manager.

· Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations, while championing a learning culture of investigating near-misses and working to reduce the number of safety incidents.

· Report out on sustainability KPIs for U.S. and coordinate corrective actions including all safety statistics and Near Misses.

· Inspect facilities, machinery, equipment, and personnel practices to identify potential EHS concerns and hazards.

· Manage environmental programs by maintaining report requirements for the EPA and all Government Agencies including auditing and monitoring waste disposal practices.

· Assist in Workers’ Compensation & safety investigations by conducting accident investigations and providing recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.

· Interact with insurance carriers and brokers.

· Remain technically competent and keep current in new developments within the EH&S industry.

· Perform job duties in compliance with all health, safety and environment requirements.

· Oversee facilities emergency management procedures.

· Proactively coordinate and execute the necessary risk reduction techniques associated with Caljan’s operations, and work with colleagues to avoid or reduce those risks and ensure safe systems of work for all activities.

· Oversee Caljan’s emergency management procedures, conduct audits, training, etc., as appropriate to ensure adequate response capabilities.

· Lead the setting, monitoring and presenting EHS metrics with partnership with global EHS.

· Carry out investigations into any accidents and near-miss incidents that may occur to determine root causes; record and report on findings as required; notify management of all matters reportable under the appropriate internal and external reporting systems.

· Review and analyze reports of accidents and near-miss occurrences to make recommendations that help prevent reoccurrences and corrective actions. Identify, implement and monitor the effectiveness of any corrective/preventative actions that may be taken to prevent reoccurrence.

· Build relationships with key stakeholders to foster support for EHS processes and programs.

· Work closely with all levels of management to promote safe manufacturing practices, procedures, and proper use of equipment and facilities, responding appropriately to any concerns raised by team members in relation to EHS in the plant.

· Coordinate, prepare and deliver EHS training for employees; both internal and external as required. Provide training on safety protocols, emergency response, first aid/CPR, and fire extinguisher trainings, etc.

· Support Global EHS initiatives by participating and leading action plan generation and monitoring of EHS related projects.

· Provide new hire orientations outlining the Company’s expectations regarding safety rules and regulations.

· Promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention, risk reduction and regulatory compliance.

· Organize and participate in safety team committee activities.

· Develop specific EHS objectives and create action plans to meet those objectives.

· Maintain, review and report EHS performance, identifying opportunities for improvement along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required.

· Conduct internal EHS audits to ensure regulatory compliance.

· Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.

· Minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment.

· Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation for occasional local travel.

· Legal authorization to work in the United States is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening.

Desired Qualifications:

· Knowledge of safety and health and environmental codes and regulations

· OSHA 10 or 30 hour Certification

· Knowledge of ISO14001 and previous experience with ISO14001 audits

· Professional designations preferred (CSP, ARM)

· Ability to train in all areas of safety and health

· Proficient in Microsoft Office software

· Able to work independently, but also able to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships across the organization.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate and respond to both internal and external customers professionally and in a timely manner.

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently make decisions, multi-task, and prioritize.

· Previous experience with air and water permits.
