Yosemite Pathology (YP) is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA.
YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.
YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens.
We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases.
The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.
Summary / Objective
Shift : Monday - Friday 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm
Essential Functions
- Review of histology and cytology reports to determine proper coding
- Enter CPT and ICD-10 codes into the billing system
- Work with the billers to provide education on denial trends related to coding
- Proactively communicate with management on coding denial trends and process improvement ideas
- Provide coding audit feedback to peers as needed
- Call hospitals to retrieve missing reports
- Verify stains in laboratory logs
- PQRS education and reporting
- Attend updated educational seminars and webinars
- Add or change charges based upon addendum / amended reports
- Verify processed information for accuracy
- Prioritize cases by oldest received date
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Skills
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Certified Professional Coder Certificate with American Academy of Professional Coders
- Detail-oriented and demonstrates a positive and proactive attitude
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to research and resolve issues
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-pace, high volume environment
- General knowledge of Excel and Word
- Knowledge of computer operator functions including terminology and equipment
- Knowledge of data processing policies, procedures, and concepts
- Skill in performing repetitive duties on a daily basis
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to establish effective and professional working relationships with other staff members
