Title: Optics Prototyping Engineer 
Duration: Vendor

Hours: Minimum 40 Hours/Week 
Role:
● Build and utilize internal infrastructure and methodologies to rapidly evaluate product feasibility of optics technologies for next-generation products. 
● Collaborate with lens engineering, display, system engineering, process, research, and other cross-functional teams to deliver on process and prototyping needs.
● Utilize a hands-on approach to refining current processing and developing new processing methods for a variety of new optical systems.
● Explore and develop new, cutting-edge fabrication processes, methods, and tools to accelerate technology adoption and productization.
● Build, test, and validate novel opto-mechanical structures, manufacturing processes, and optics technologies to evaluate manufacturability, technology performance, and visual performance for next-generation optics technologies.
● Develop comprehensive reporting of prototype and process performance against KPIs, including mechanical, optical, and material characteristics.
● Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10% of the time).
Skills:
● 2 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering fields, preferably in the optics or optical component manufacturing fields.
● Experience with new process development, Design of Experiments and process qualification methodologies.
● Knowledge of statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing.
● Knowledge of assembly and alignment of multiple optical elements in a sub-system, including linear and angular adjustment. 
● Knowledge of common optical metrology instruments and measurement methods such as interferometry, CMM, OMM.
● Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools.
● Able to work fully on site.
● 2 years of experience in 3D modeling/2D drafting in NX, ProE or SolidWorks (NX preferred).
● 5 years’ experience in rapid prototyping and assembly processes, such as CNC, 3D printing, injection molding and joining techniques in a lab-scale environment.
● Experience with thin films and polarizing materials.
● Skilled in evaluating and developing new technology capability at external vendors. 
● Experience with Optics modeling software such as Zemax, CodeV, etc.
● Experience in designing and prototyping a high precision optics system. 
● Excellent interpersonal skills to work across teams, including international and domestic vendors. 
● Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent experience in Physics, Mechanical, Systems, Industrial or Optical Engineering. Master’s in Physics, Mechanical, Systems, Industrial or Optical Engineering.

freshconsulting.comSalary range for this position is $40/hr to $55/hr (Equivalent to 80k to 110k). Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
