The Cherokee County Sheriffs Office has an immediate opening for a Dispatcher. This is a full time position in Rusk, Texas.
Position Summary:Receives emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determine the nature and location of the emergency and dispatch police, fire, ambulance or other emergency units as necessary.
Essential Functions of the Job
· Answers phones and radio transmissions
· Files warrants
· Handles emergency calls
· Dispatches several departments including but not limited to: Sheriff’s department, city police, fire departments, wrecker services, state troopers, TX DOT
· Sends and receives teletypes, quality assurance, hit request/ confirmations
· Provides customer service and respond to complaints
· Record call log information into computer
· Maintains wrecker rotation logs
· Updates log books
· Logs comp entries
· Enters TCIC/NCIC entries
· Enters warrants, protective orders, stolen items and missing persons entries
· Assigns case numbers to call slips on officer request
· Maintains and tracks warrants
· Assist law enforcement personnel with documentation
· End of month storage
· Fax transmissions separated for inner office
· Additional duties as directed by commanding officers
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform the Essential Functions
· Knowledge of county policies
· Excellent computer skills
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to interact with other departments and the public
· Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
· Ability to receive, respond and direct radio traffic
· Knowledge of filing system
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Work will be performed indoors. Ability to remain upright for extended periods of time
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
· REQUIRED - High School Diploma or equivalent
· Tele-Communicator training
· TCIC/NCIC training
