Science Teacher (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) - Full Time

Position Overview

Franklin School, an innovative coeducational high school in Jersey City, NJ, is currently seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic High School Science (with concentration in Chemistry, Biology, and or Physics) Teacher to begin in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a community where students are encouraged to learn, think, and act as a scientist.
  • Designing, developing and delivering lessons that are student centered, engaging, hands on and inquiry based.
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents and other teachers.
  • Grading efficiently and delivering regular feedback to students and parents
  • Establishing classroom, lab, and field trip rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.
  • Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.
  • Display a commitment to diversity and creating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Franklin School
  • Franklin faculty members are expected to share their expertise and passions related to both academic and non-academic areas, to enrich the school community through contributions to the skills, micro-courses, and electives programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Science Education, or a science-related area required
  • Masters Degree in Science, Science Education or a science-related area recommended
  • At least five years prior teaching experience
  • A record of success teaching to a range of learners
  • Experience with inquiry based learning in a Science class
  • Experience with AP courses preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching to a range of learners
  • Eagerness to contribute positively to the Franklin community
  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences

Compensation:

  • $60,000-$110,000/year
  • Commensurate with experience and education
