About the Digital Products team: The Planned Parenthood Digital Products team provides reliable and scalable applications and technology programs and services in support of health care delivery, sex education, advocacy, fundraising, and internal operations. About this role: Digital Product Designerwill champion our users’ need for sexual and reproductive health care that meets their lived experiences by strategically designing the integrated user experience for our suite of digital products. The Digital Product Designer will report to the Senior Director of Product Design, Digital Products.

Purpose

  • The Digital Product Designer will be successful when they: 1) Are able to identify our target users’ core needs within the health care and education journey with assistance 2) Lean into a lean ux process to deliver improved user experience and research across one core digital product, and 3) collaborate and contribute to interdisciplinary workstreams related to their work to improve our overall user experiences. 

Delivery

  • The Digital Product Designer is responsible for iteratively planning and delivering the following bodies of work across one digital product - with the flexibility to move between products on a semi-annual basis.
  • Information Architecture - High-level IA Models that organize the structure and relationship of content to match natural user categorizations (e.g., site maps to help organize content).
  • User Research - Partnering and assisting with product level research, and identifying collaboration points across teams.
  • Collaborate on drafting lightweight research and testing plans - These should help define themes of product research, and how we will execute them.
  • Continuous user engagement - Maintaining a regular cadence of user engagement to ensure we are understanding our users on a 1 to 1 level in order to better empathize and center our designs around their lived experiences.
  • Synthesis - Distill and lift up actionable insights for working teams to understand our areas of opportunity, with a bias towards quick and easily digestible formats vs. formal research reports.
  • Collaborate with data folks, such as data scientists and business intelligence on research initiatives to continuously improve what we focus on from a qual and quant perspective on a sprint to sprint basis.
  • User Experience Design - Driving UX on a product level and integrating across teams.
  • Collaborates on data driven personas - To empower teams to better relate to our target users alongside their healthcare journey.
  • Driving the mapping of our patient journey map - Centering all of our digital products in the context of the patients ongoing and evolving journey to navigate the complex healthcare space.
  • Logic flows - Mapping easily understood flows around how Planned Parenthood’s content is served up based off user interaction with our digital products.
  • Wireflows - To demonstrate the structural screen to screen interaction on how a user navigates through all parts of a feature or experience.
  • Collaboration on product copy - Directional guidance for stakeholders and collaborators to work on effective product copy focused improving user engagement.
  • Visual Design - Contributing to the teams collaborative evolution of design patterns and themes.
  • Visual designs and assets - For max and min states, both UI elements, as well as supporting visual components.
  • Interaction Design - Assisting in identifying and communicating the opportunity for IXD patterns.
  • Prototypes and motion tests - That enable users and product teams to better understand how proposed features will look, work, and feel before investment is made into development.
  • Product design socialization
  • Design thinking - Be a champion for design thinking and human-centered digital innovation within Digital Products as well as with the broader Planned Parenthood Federation.
  • Research socialization - Report on regular user research to deepen the DP’s understanding of our core audience and their needs, and incorporate learnings into both new and existing products.

Engagement

  • Strategic thought leader and influencer among interdisciplinary peers on scrum teams
  • Advisor and thought partner to peers and more senior colleagues within PPFA and at affiliates
  • Mentor to more junior peers

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • 3 years expertise in designing and launching scalable end-to-end digital experiences.
  • Strong product design portfolio with an emphasis on minimalism and clarity across a diverse mix of digital formats, including websites, and mobile apps.
  • Experience with a variety of product design & research tools, including (but not limited to) Photoshop, Figma, Illustrator, UserZoom, Hotjar, Dovetail and online prototyping tools like Principal.
  • A working knowledge on how digital products are structured and built on the technical end, so that designs are created with proper structure and development lift in mind.
  • Experience working with brand standards.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and synthesizing lean user research.
  • An interest in designing solutions for both complex logic flows as well as engaging user experiences.
  • Experience successfully integrating into work across distributed teams.
  • Great communicator; using verbal, written, and visual tools to openly collaborate and grow the interpersonal relationships that create a fluid work culture within working teams.
  • Comfortable with flexibility, showing the ability to work between both proactive and reactive work streams with grace.
  • Openness for mentorship and being comfortable with different areas of opportunity for growth.
  • Comfort with changing priorities and patience for process.
  • Comfort with operating in times and areas of ambiguity.
  • Able to function effectively as a team player while leading organizational change
  • Goal-oriented; able to make demonstrable progress toward strategic goals and KPls, while keeping up with an ever-evolving day-to-day product development environment.
  • Have strong empathy for the user and a passion for designing for social impact.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience designing for integration with EHR’s and EMR’s.
  • Experience designing within a CMS environment.
  • Experience working in an agile or lean environment.
  • Experience designing digital healthcare products.
  • Experience with hands on front-end development a plus.
  • Experience with motion graphics skills. 

Travel

  • Open to travel for user research. (Max 20% outside of a pandemic)
Starting salary: $85K

Final offers for this job will be based on capabilities and will be made within the parameters of the PPFA compensation program. For roles denoted as full-time , total offer package to include generous vacation sick leave paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k. We also offer voluntary opt in for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Transportation/Commuter accounts.
