POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Recreation Center Maintenance crew, the incumbent in this position shares the responsibility and performs work in the routine ground, custodial care, and maintenance of the BRRC facilities, athletic venues, grounds, and other landscaped or recreational areas. . The individual will be responsible for operating various types of building systems, machinery, and tools in a safe & efficient manner to maintain, analyze, repair, and perform improvements to the Recreation Center facilities, sports complex, and amenities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Shall be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Bear River Recreation Center and related amenities, which consists of a gymnasium, fitness center, weight/cardio rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a snack bar, sports complex, and associated recreation amenities.
  • Provides custodial services for all recreation facilities, including cleaning reservation areas, restrooms, and the control and removal of debris and trash.
  • Shall be responsible for ensuring that all appropriate health and safety standards are maintained and that recreation facilities and amenities are clean and well maintained according to industry standards.
  • Inspecting and monitoring daily, weekly, monthly, and bi-annual operation systems in BRB’S buildings and facilities.
  • Prioritizing and performing general maintenance and repair on BRB’S buildings and facilities.
  • Assisting with the creation, organization and updating of Preventive Maintenance schedules.
  • Repairing, and performing inventory on tools and equipment.
  • Performing a rotating seven-day/week work schedule and a periodic 24-hour/day on-call system.
  • Performing work for BRB Special Events including but not limited to Weddings, Concerts, etc.
  • Performing related work and assisting other departments as necessary.
  • Preparing and maintaining necessary records and reports.
  • Continuing job knowledge requirements in order to remain aware of current methods and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

AUTHORITY/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have one (1) years related experience in facilities maintenance or related construction field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must provide or obtain CPR & First Aid certification within three (3) months of hire.

COMPUTER OPERATIONS

  • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
  • Must be able to work with Native American people and be sensitive to their culture.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays & special events as needed.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Power and hand tools, specialized light duty power equipment, computer control systems, ladders, scaffolding, manlifts and associated safety equipment, light trucks, air tools and personal computers, two- way radios. Materials: Paints, lacquers/thinners/solvents, adhesives, cleaners, fuels, degreasers, grease, oils, refrigerants, antifreeze, concrete/cement, dirt/backfill, topsoil, chemical hardeners, concrete sealers, other materials and chemicals associated with facility maintenance as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an outdoor and indoor environment with exposure to a variety of adverse weather conditions and temperatures, slippery/uneven surfaces, electricity, noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, machinery, working in confined spaces, on ladders/scaffolds, manlifts, bucket trucks; public contact, working alone and as a member of a team; handling emergency situations and office work.

Physical activities include lifting and carrying (over 50lbs), pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, crawling, kneeling, digging, repeated bending, climbing using both arms and legs, use of hands and fingers, use of eyes for sight including ability to distinguish color & distance, hearing, verbally communicating, operating motorized equipment and driving a vehicle. This position also requires sitting at a desk in close proximity to a computer terminal.
