Community Action Program For Central Arkansas is Hiring a Bus Monitor/Assistant Teacher Near Kensett, AR

STATEMENT OF THE JOB: Under the overall supervision of the Early Childhood Director and the direct supervision of the Center Manager. Carries out all duties and responsibilities as related to caring for children and supervising them while they are aboard the bus. Work in collaboration with the Bus Driver to properly supervise children at all times during the bus route. Carries out duties in the classroom as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
  1. Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers, and children at all times.
  2. Responsible for seeing that children board and leave the bus in a safe manner.
  3. Responsible for seeing that children are seated safely.
  4. Responsible for seeing that children behave properly while being transported.
  5. Conduct educational activities while in transit that extend and reinforce classroom learning.This may include singing, telling stories, playing visual games or doing quiet activities throughout a bus route.
  6. Responsible for seeing that children are accounted for and are safely in their designated classroom upon arrival.
  7. Responsible for seeing that children are returned to parent or other authorized adult.
  8. Responsible for forming positive, trusting relationships with children and with families to support children's growth and development.
  9. Assist teachers with observing children regularly and individualizing for each child based on these observations.
  10. Responsible for creating a warm and welcoming environment that supports children's growth and development.
  11. Responsible for ensuring the health and safety of children.
  12. Responsible for guiding children's behavior in positive ways.
  13. Responsible for using routines as opportunities for growth and learning.
  14. Assist teachers in providing activities that facilitate children's growth and development.
  15. Take every safeguard to protect children and make careful decisions regarding their daily care.
  16. Assist with the orderliness and cleanliness of the center.
  17. Work in closecooperation and participate in activities with and for parents.
  18. Promote good eating habits by sitting at the table and eating with the children when food is served, conversing with children and encouraging good table manners.
  19. Assist in implementing the curriculum and daily lesson plans.
  20. Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind for parent and community activities.
  21. Attend and participate in center staff meetings. Participate in parent meetings and staffings as requested.
  22. Must be able to see, hear and respond to children's needs, emergencies and conflicts that might occur in the classroom, playground, bathrooms or other areas used by children.
  23. Responsible for data management of designated areas.
  24. Assist in the avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensure compliance in the overall management of the Early Childhood area.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Respect confidentiality in all aspects of the Head Start Program.
  2. Document attendance for a minimum of 15 clock hours of approved professional development per year that is high-quality, sustained, intensive and classroom-focused.
  3. Willing to participate in training to further education as required by Head Start to improve job skills and to maintain the position.
  4. Able to handle stress, tension and exasperation that contact with many children and adults may bring every day.
  5. May be called upon to administer first aid to children or staff at any time in the program. The incidental nature of this circumstance effectively establishes first aid as a collateral duty, rather than a primary one.
  6. Perform other job-related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the program.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CDA Credential with Preschool or Infant Toddler Endorsement preferred.
  • Be enrolled in a Child Development Associate credential program to be completed within
2 years of hire or be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education.
  1. Experience Requirements:
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • 3 months experience working with young children 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  1. Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift children who weigh as much as 50 pounds, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to participate in activities requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and jumping.
  • Must pass tuberculosis screening assessment annually and initial health examination within first three months of employment.
  • Valid driver's license, access to transportation with liability insurance and willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
  • Able to travel out of area overnight to attend training.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  1. Skill Requirements:
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
  1. Personal Traits:
  • Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Head Start Program.
  • Able to keep confidential information without inappropriately divulging it.
  • Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.

Receive a $500.00 New Hire Incentive following a satisfactory 90-day job performance review.
SALARY: No credentials $12.07, CDA $14.00, Currently budgeted for 10 months
Hours: Full-Time/Non-Exempt position, Mon.-Fri. Work hours 7:30am-3:30pm when children are present, 7:30am to 4pm on days when children are not present.
