A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available at an NIH-funded lab to study the role of inflammasome signaling in neutrophils and platelets, and how platelet-derived extracellular vesicles contribute to pathophysiology of vaso-occlusion, lung injury, liver injury and sterile inflammation in Sickle Cell Disease.

The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques such as Multi-Photon-Excitation intravital microscopy of the lung and other organs in mice, microfluidic platform studies with human blood, proteomics and transcriptomics, and other molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. Previous experience in mice surgery or intravital microscopy, microfluidic platforms and strong background in neutrophil and platelet adhesion biology, lung biology, liver biology and innate immunity or extracellular vesicle/exosome signaling is highly preferred.

Our labs are located in the Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) of the Blood Center of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. VBRI is a pioneer institute in the field of Hemostasis, Thrombosis and bleeding disorders. VBRI has a strong commitment towards career development of young investigators in the field of basic and translational hematology. Postdoc candidates will also have the opportunity to learn basic and clinical hematology, innate immunity and vascular biology.

Strong written and verbal skills in English are essential. PhDs from Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Physiology, Immunology, Pathology and Molecular Biology who aspire to establish themselves as independent investigators are highly encouraged to apply.

• MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES * Works with Principal Investigator to develop a research project. * Executes laboratory experiments specific to aims of research. * Troubleshoots assays and customizes experimental tools to answer research questions. * Coordinates external and internal resources necessary for completion of research plan. * Provides direction to Technologists and Trainees. * Generates clear and complete records of experimental work. * Communicates results of research at meetings. * Participates in publication and presentation of research.
• GENERAL DUTIES * Adheres to BCW, Bio-safety, NRC, OSHA procedures and regulations. * Attends required laboratory meetings. * Maintains currency with information relative to the field of research being performed. * Serves as a resource for techniques, information, instrumentation, interpretation of data, etc. for laboratory personnel * May be expected to help direct the work of Research Technologists. * Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized research equipment. * Prepares solutions, reagents, media or stains necessary for experimental procedures. * May maintain or oversee maintenance of inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. * May prepare and/or authorize requisitions for ordering supplies and equipment. * Performs other laboratory duties as assigned.
