Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Executive Director of ASPIRE, the Research and AnalyticsAssociatewill advance Wenatchee Valley College's culture of evidence through the development, deployment, and maintenance of innovative web-based dashboards and SQL database environments to improve data access and analysis capabilities to support strategic planning, accreditation, and other assessment activities.

Essential Functions

The position will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:
  • Advance an equity-minded, data-informed culture of inquiry and continuous improvement throughout all areas of the College through open and transparent democratization of data.
  • Collaborate with departments throughout the college to understand data needs and abilities in order to design, develop, and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain automated and sustainable standard quarterly/annual and ad-hoc reporting solutions (dashboards, scorecards, workbooks) that collect, link, aggregate, and disseminate data and metrics to support strategic planning, accreditation, and other instructional and non-instructional assessment activities from a variety of internal and external sources.
  • Produce tables, graphs, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize student characteristics, enrollment, retention, graduation, post-college employment, etc.
  • Advance data literacy through providing workshops, data summits, and other professional development opportunities for staff, faculty, and administrators (turning data into usable information, appropriate uses and limitations of data, integrated planning).
  • Support the development and utilization of PS Query reports, helping college faculty and staff to obtain access to query reports, run reports and provide training on reporting tools.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for mandatory external reporting needs such as Federal and State reporting including (e.g.: Perkins, IPEDS, Gainful Employment, Net Price Calculator).
  • Assume responsibility as designated or in the absence of the Research and Analytics Manager to ensure deadlines are met and work is completed.
  • Lead and/or supervise projects as directed by the Executive Director and/or Research and Analytics Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional research standards, ethics and applicable regulations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of projects, data dictionaries, and reporting inventories.
  • Design, implement, and maintain data systems in SQL environment to support automated reporting; ETL; and data integrity management.
  • Utilize business intelligence solutions for the college to examine and evaluate data and trends in order to make data informed decisions and recommendations on strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate access to and training on data visualization systems and tools to support college operations and monitor mission fulfillment indicators.
  • Design and conduct surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, and/or other data collection processes to assess instructional and non-instructional outcomes.
  • Produce quarterly and annual reports documenting the college's status and change over time (cross-sectional, retrospective, and longitudinal).
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and communicate data to support learning outcomes assessment at the course, program and college level.
  • Monitor and test data sources to ensure a high level of data accuracy used to create business intelligence solutions and reports.
  • Serve on various college committees, taskforces, organizations, etc. to support their data and analytical needs.
  • Select and use appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical techniques.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for a variety of audiences including both narrative interpretation and visual displays of information.
  • Work accurately and independently; be responsive to deadlines and able to prioritize projects.
  • Serve as a member on those committees that require data or accountability/performance measures as determined by the Executive Director.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree with demonstrated coursework and/or projects focused on data or analysis.
  • One year of experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Experience working with database systems and creating data visualizations.
  • Working knowledge of structured query language (SQL).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years' experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in survey design and administration.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and associated data tools.
  • Familiarity, understanding and commitment to follow standard practices and ethics of Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness in higher education.
  • Experience creating digital content in accessible formats.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Organization: Ability to keep track of large amounts of information and projects, keeping track of project requirements, deadlines, deliverables and documentation.
  • Technical/computer skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office; SQL programming, familiarity with Canvas, PeopleSoft, and other college systems.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:
This is full-time administrative exempt position contracted on an annual basis. The salary for this position is $72,000 annually. The salary, supported through a combination of State funds and a five-year Title V Grant, will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the fiscal year. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the department.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work is typically performed in an office setting and requires the ability to sit/stand, perform computer data entry, and operate general office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to use a computer and a variety of office equipment.
Work Schedule & Environment:
  • Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, but occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
