Community Action Marin is Hiring a Mentor Coach Near San Rafael, CA

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Early Education, assists with the overall planning and operations of the program and ensures quality services to children and families. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Early Education, the Mentor Coach will provide feedback and support to assist teaching staff in improving their practice.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in planning, development, and implementation of high-quality early education training.
  • Work closely with classroom staff to ensure the curriculum model is implemented and maintained.
  • Ensure the center environment (indoors and outdoors) is developmentally appropriate, safe and offers children a wide variety of experiences. Work closely with education staff at the beginning of the year for classroom set-up using fidelity tool and the appropriate environmental rating scales.
  • Participate in community collaborations and local Quality Matters programs, QRIS Consortium and First Five.
  • Establish connections for regular communication and dialogue with other coaches and consultants from other agencies working with CAM staff.
  • Support staff in using child assessment data to develop goals and implement activities to support each child’s learning.
  • Network within and/or outside the agency to increase knowledge of resources and services that benefit clients; develop effective relationships; further agency and community goals; and/or raise the profile of CAM and its programs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Engage reasonable precaution in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to always assure, maximum safety to oneself, fellow employees, clients/children, and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with the division’s education curricula, curriculum fidelity tools, environmental rating scales, agency child assessment tool and school readiness goals.
  • Works closely with Education & Inclusion Team to plan and ensure a developmentally comprehensive, multicultural, anti-bias program for children and families.
  • Works closely with Education & Inclusion Team, and specialists to plan and implement an effective training program for instructional staff to increase their knowledge, skills, and experience in child growth and development.
  • Knowledge of coaching systems, including online systems.
  • Knowledgeable of activities, literature, and other program contents appropriate for bilingual and multicultural education.
  • Familiar with the ChildPlus data system and support teaching staff with the assessment data system.
  • Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities, including literature, music and movement, multicultural and bilingual education, anti-bias curriculum, and other program content.
  • Knowledge of administrative and management techniques.
  • Skilled in evaluation and implementation of educational lesson planning for groups and individuals, some of whom are individuals with disabilities.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with clients, community partners and program staff.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, data management software, and web-based applications.
  • Sound decision-making, and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training and support for staff in early childhood education, including child growth and development, guidance techniques, child observation and assessment, diversity and inclusion, individualized programming, and curriculum development.
  • Familiar with the system developed by CAM to determine who would most benefit from intensive coaching in their area. Ability to meet deadlines pertaining to required coaching documents.
  • Emotional maturity, stability, tactfulness, and the ability to provide professional leadership.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships with other program staff.
  • Ability to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or socio-economic level.
  • Understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals, and performance measures of the agency. Ability to organize and maintain accurate record keeping and reporting.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development/early childhood education or related field.
  • English and Spanish Bilingual proficiency highly preferred, verbal and written.
  • Three years teaching and administrative work experience with children ages infant to five in a licensed setting.
  • Hold an active Child Development Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Provide certificates of completion of approved pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within (30) days of hire.
  • Employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid CPR/first aid certification, at all times.
  • Must have, or obtain by program-specified date, training in adult learning and in using assessment data to support coaching.
  • Classroom Language Acquisition Scoring System reliable within six months of hire and update reliability each year.
  • Complete Safety Training (Performance Standard; 1302.47) within three months of hire.
  • Complete (16) hours of training on preventative health practices, as required by Health and Safety Code.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
  • Comply with the CAM’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.
  • Complete a health screening physical within last year of employment per licensing regulations, and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray.
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
  • Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements.
  • Supports instructional staff through training, modeling, and guidance per coaching plan. Monitors the teaching staff for progress toward established goals. 4. Scores teachers using the Classroom Assessment and Scoring System (CLASS).
  • Must have valid and current California Driver’s License with clean or acceptable driving record and auto and liability insurance with reliable transportation.
