Kaiser Family Foundation is Hiring a Remote Policy Analyst

Location: San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC.
Status: Full-Time; Term Position; Grant-Funded through June 30, 2024 with the possibility of extension

Position Summary:

KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), a non-profit organization, is a leader in health policy analysis, polling and survey research, health journalism, and communications, dedicated to filling the need for trusted information on national health issues. KFF serves as a non-partisan source of facts, information, and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the public.

KFF’s Women’s Health Policy program provides information and analysis on health policy issues of importance to women with a focus on the coverage, access and financial challenges facing women. The Policy Analyst will help the Women’s Health Policy program carry out our legal research agenda related to the intersection of women’s health policy legislation, litigation, and access to care, with a focus on contraception and abortion access.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Track and analyze litigation challenging state and federal laws related to abortion and contraception;
  • Track and analyze the emergence of new state and federal laws, regulations, and actions affecting access to abortion and contraception;
  • Keep abreast of new policy developments affecting women’s health, private and public health coverage, and sexual and reproductive health care at the state and federal level;
  • Work with senior staff to develop and analyze specific state and federal legislation and litigation, trends, and their impact on abortion access, coverage, and women’s health;
  • Co-author KFF reports and other publications to present analyses of legislation and litigation; and
  • Assist in responding to media inquiries about research findings as well as the development of presentations to outside groups.

Minimum Desired Experience and Skills:

  • J.D. or Bachelor’s degree with some legal experience;
  • Experience tracking state and federal legislation, and closely reading legislative language to understand how the bills or laws interact with existing law;
  • Experience tracking litigation through state and federal courts;
  • Ability to critically read court decisions and explain legal decisions in writing to non-legal audiences;
  • Ability to develop, initiate and conduct work independently and efficiently on concurrent projects;
  • Knowledge or interest in federal and state health policy and law related to women’s health, Medicaid, health insurance coverage, and sexual and reproductive health;
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking skills, with exceptional written and oral skills;
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, with strong project management skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment; and
  • Inquisitive, creative, productive, positive-minded, and results oriented.

This full-time position will be based in KFF’s San Francisco Headquarters or KFF’s Washington, DC office. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of 2 days a week, with a longer-term hybrid policy of 3 days a week. The position is term-limited through June 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension.

Compensation:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package.
