Camp Paivika, one of the first fully accessible camps in the U.S., is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team. Nestled in the stunning San Bernardino National Forest, we offer a nurturing and fun-filled environment for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and Down syndrome.

About the Role

As the Assistant Program Director, you will play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our camp, providing both leadership and administrative support. You will be instrumental in shaping the camp experience for both campers and staff, ensuring a safe, fun, and enriching environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Supervisor/Program Staff training to assist in planning and preparation for the summer camp.
  • Help conduct staff training in camp programming and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Camp Director and Program Director, consulting regularly with all camp supervisors and staff.
  • Assist in coordinating and supervising all camp activities, including session themes, field trips, and special events.
  • Organize and facilitate camper activities and evening programs.
  • Aid in assigning staff to activities and ensure effective program delivery.
  • Provide administrative support to the Camp Director, including document collection and volunteer training.
  • Offer ongoing support and resources to all camp staff, contributing to staff motivation and development.
  • Perform “Supervisor on Duty” roles as needed and step in for any emergency roles to ensure camper and staff safety.
  • Contribute to end-of-summer reporting and staff performance evaluations.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age or older.
  • College coursework in fields related to disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in camp settings, preferably with AbilityFirst, is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record; driving responsibilities required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Proven leadership skills in line with camp rules and policies.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
