POSITION SUMMARY The Development Operations Manager is a pivotal member of Greenpeace U.S., reports directly to the Director of Development Operations. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of the Development Department, encompassing Greenpeace Inc and Greenpeace Fund activities, particularly in Planned Giving. The Development Operations Manager's primary responsibilities include developing fundraising strategies, managing budgets, and ensuring efficient operational procedures that enhance our income growth, optimize expenditure and improve the donor experience.

The Development Operations Manager is a full time, benefits-eligible, exempt hybrid role based in Washington D.C, and reports to the Director of Development Operations. This position requires a minimum two (2) days per week of in-person work from our GPUS DC office location, with the potential and willingness toward more in-office days, as required during high volume times. This position requires occasional work outside of normal business hours across time-zones, as needed and infrequent travel, as needed.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

  • Manages the Development Operations Specialist, to ensure continued growth and staff development.
  • Responsible for driving an internal culture that yields high performance from Development Operations staff and delivers on key objectives and metrics.
  • Responsible for the oversight of Development Operations and Planned Giving in-house gift processing and reconciliation procedures.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating year-end gift processing plans with key fundraising staff and external caging facility.
  • Serve as Project Manager or project team member on cross departmental project teams and working groups as needed.

Operations and Strategy
In partnership with the Director of Development Operations:

  • Responsible for helping to drive the department strategy and annual objectives, and developing and coordinating communication to the Development Team.
  • Responsible for creating fundraising narratives and reports for the Greenpeace Inc and Greenpeace Fund Boards of Directors, Greenpeace International, and the wider GPUS organization.
  • Drives the documentation and centralization of all Development Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Supports the creation, implementation, review and documentation of all budget and reforecast processes, which includes the ongoing monitoring of department-wide revenue and expenditure.
  • Identifies operating gaps and recommends process refinements to close the gaps or to create greater operational efficiency.

Administration and Compliance

  • Responsible for helping to drive the department strategy and annual objectives, and developing and coordinating communication to the Development Team.
  • Manages development compliance processes in coordination with the Development Operations Specialist providing support where needed, including state registrations and Combined Federal
  • Campaign applications for Greenpeace Inc and Greenpeace Fund and proper documentation of all compliance.
  • Responsible for the implementation of processes related to annual 990 filing and internal audit for Greenpeace Inc and Greenpeace Fund on behalf of the Development department.
  • Responsible for the oversight of all charity ratings for Greenpeace Inc and Greenpeace Fund, as executed by the Development Operations Specialist through bi-annual and annual accreditation applications.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development Operations, develops communications to the wider organization to provide information on financial results and Development updates.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in high-level administrative/leadership role inclusive of people management, preferably working in operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of fundraising experience, with strong preference for fundraising operations experience
  • Experience working within fundraising CRM database such as Salesforce
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Project management experience, PMP or Scrum Master Certification preferred
  • High proficiency Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets including ability to create graphs, charts and Pivot Tables
  • Experienced in supporting and committed to (IDEA) Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access

  • Word, Google Suite experience necessary and experience with database management systems such as Access preferred.
