External Job Title: Senior Cost Accountant

Internal Job Title: Lead, Accounting

Job Location: Williamsport, PA

Under the leadership of the Director of Cost Accounting, this role will be responsible for providing cost accounting and analytical support to our manufacturing and operational business partners.

You will participate in the implementation of the company’s cost accounting initiatives requiring a close relationship with operations, engineering, warehouse, IT, logistics, GL Accounting, Finance, and senior management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cost accounting reports relating to manufacturing variances, cost centers, work streams, projects, inventory accuracy, productivity, and other important operational metrics.
• Maintain oversight of cost drivers, overrun application of rates, product financial margins and product cost actuals.
• Assist in the month-end close process as required.
• Participate in supporting & maintaining oversight on processes relating to the BOM & routers.
• Become the subject matter experts with respect to the manufacturing processes and how it relates to finance and accounting.
• Compile daily, weekly, and quarterly KPI’s relating to operations.
• Complete the Excess & Obsolete calculation and lead discussions on limiting E&O.
• Compile product costs, including direct labor, direct materials, and overheads.
• Coordinate and audit the yearly physical inventory & cycle counts process.
• Work closely with Business Management, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Program Management, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to provide cost accounting support and resolve issues on cost and inventory.
• Maintain a Kaizen mentality to better streamlining processes and realizing efficiency gains.
• Support Supply Chain initiatives related to product costing.
• Assisting in the development and implementation of training programs.
• Assist in the implementation of a standard cost system by evaluating the implementations approach, communicate issues, champion, and provide guidance on the creation of cost accounting reports.
• Assist in the development and success of core ERP changes.
• Suggest enhancements to existing processes and create new processes where best practices are not being followed.
• Will require work on weekends during close and as required to achieve the success of our initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• Minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience required with at least 4 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing company.
• Strong manufacturing ERP experience strongly desired.
• Advanced Excel skills are required.
• Understanding of robust internal controls is desired.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
•  Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
• Understanding of Standard Costing and variances highly desirable.
• Project costing in a government contracting environment and familiarity with government contract accounting compliance requirements (e.g. FAR, CAS) is strongly desired.
• Process enhancement and process improvement experience.
• Desire to interact with production and production support teams to understand the process.
