Communication Manager

This position supports our Healthy Savannah program. The Communications Manager will engage all sectors of the community around providing access to physical activity, nutritious food, community-clinical linkages, breastfeeding advocacy, and adult immunization promotion. to our community with a focus on low-wealth African American residents of Chatham County. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia is the fiscal agent for the CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant. This position is 100% supported by this grant. The current grant end date is September 2028. We are currently working with over 25 partners across the community to improve health equity in Chatham County. Healthy Savannah asks all stakeholders for help and advice; gains insight and expertise, which creates forward momentum to reducing barriers and deepens coalition relationships.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with community level initiatives in support of policy, system, and environmental change to promote active lifestyles, healthy food access, community-clinical linkages, breastfeeding, and adult immunizations.
• Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and decision makers in developing and achieving goals and objectives
• Assist in setting priorities to meet culturally competent communication needs for the diverse population in Savannah, Georgia
• Represent Healthy Savannah in community events and in coalition meetings
• Conduct research using Healthy Savannah Community Survey instruments

• COMMUNICATIONS:

• Lead the CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health team on relevant communications
• Create and manage a development and communications calendar that incorporates outreach to constituents via MailChimp, 1:1 messages, social media, e-mail, and telephone.
• Oversee the creation and implementation of internal, external, printed, and digital communications strategies to benefit and build Healthy Savannah/REACH brand.
• In association with the executive director and webmaster, manage website changes and additions
• Produce the e-newsletter DRAFT ready for the executive director by the 24th of the prior month and schedule for the 1st of the month publishing.
• Work with staff, Board, and constituents to capture and disseminate human interest stories to be used for generating media coverage
• Develop Success Stories for each strategy working with the Program Managers
• Coordinate with Carriage Trade Public Relations, as necessary, for Healthy Savannah/REACH promotional work.
• Manage all social media channels with assistance from other staff members and interns.

• COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

• Maintain community engagement calendar of all events: past, present, and future
• Coordinate staff and volunteers, survey goal, giveaways for each event
• Support receiving 800 surveys annually from our priority populations in association with REACH team

• 
  ADULT IMMUNIZATION ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTSHIP:

• Manage all communication and documentation for Community Health Advocates (CHAs).
• Attend Adult Immunization team schedule meetings.
• Perform administrative duties including notetaking, email correspondence, and other tasks assigned by the Adult Immunizations Operations Manager.

• MANAGEMENT:

• Manage well-qualified seasonal interns (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral) up to six per year, to assist with building and managing the digital presence of Healthy Savannah. Should the budget support it these may be paid internships. Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to, website management, email marketing, inventory management, Google Analytics, social media management, and content planning.
• Update communication activities status on monthly CDC REACH report as directed by, executive and deputy directors
• Contract with a temporary event planning consultant to help plan and implement the 2025 Annual event.
• Attend leadership development sessions with executive director

• MISCELLANEOUS:

• Attend all Healthy Savannah board meetings, providing updates or giving presentations, as required.
• Attend CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health meetings as required
• Attend coalition member meetings as needed /required (CGIC, SCFPC, etc.)

Qualifications

• Sound working knowledge of customer service skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Public speaking skills
• Strong writing skills
• Ability to foster positive staff, peer, and program participant relationships
• Broad and instinctive understanding of technology
• Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, and ability to learn other platforms as needed
• Willingness to learn basics to work in Mail Chimp, WordPress, Facebook, and other social media platforms
• Ability to create and submit a planned weekly schedule
• Ability to take initiative and work independently and with little supervision

Required:

• Dependable on time every time and meets timelines
• Will require some after hours work in evenings and weekends
• Cell phone with text and voicemail capabilities
• Readily access virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
• If needed, transportation access to office, meetings, and community events around Savannah/Chatham County.
• Capability to transport event materials to and from the office and event locations.
• Wi-Fi enabled electronic device (laptop or tablet)
