Dulles Area Transportation Association is Hiring a Remote Transportation Specialist

About us

The Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA), a 501(c)(3) transportation management association (TMA), is a public-private partnership that identifies access and mobility issues in the greater Dulles area and helps to develop solutions that will resolve them, primarily through employer and residential outreach and educational events and programs. DATA's service area encompasses 355-square mile area in portions of western Fairfax, eastern Loudoun, and northern Prince William Counties, with over 700,000 residents and 450,000 employees. Over the past 7 years DATA has been providing on-site transportation services targeting underserved and non-English speaking clients. In 2021 DATA established its Veterans Connect program, an initiative to recruit veteran volunteers to provide rides to important appointments for disable and elderly veterans. DATA works closely with both public officials and the private sector and we facilitate collaboration among our professional colleagues.

Transportation Specialist I

STATUS: Part time, temporary – with possibility of full time permanent placement.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Transportation Specialist implements program initiatives that pertain to DATA’s Mobility For All initiative that focuses on travel training for Spanish-speaking residents and the recruitment of bi-lingual and volunteer drivers. In some instances, the Transportation Specialist will also assist with outreach activities in client initiatives in assigned markets for the suite of DATA’s other transportation programs.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK/RESPONSIBILITIES: (This job description is intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the job).

· Primary responsibility will be under the direction of the Director of Programs and other senior DATA employees, to plan, organize, and implement travel training programs for Spanish-speaking residents under DATA’s Mobility For All initiative. Activities may include:

o Coordinating with DATA’s existing stakeholders to plan, organize and implement travel training sessions that are in-person and on-site, specific to the circumstances identified with the stakeholder.

o Participating in (and eventually lead) travel training sessions and providing follow up to stakeholder organizations after sessions are complete.

o Developing new relationships with organizations and businesses that have prospective clients that could benefit from DATA’s travel training program.

· Secondary responsibilities will be under the direction of the Director of Programs. The employee may also assist with the Mobility Network and Veteran’s Connect programs, aimed at recruiting volunteer drivers through a variety of mechanisms and activities.

Activities may include:

o Prospecting for volunteer drivers by tabling at events, trade shows, community and faith-based fairs, and other gatherings where potential volunteers may sign up for the Mobility Network or Veteran’s Connect programs.

o Researching new organizations with which DATA may partner to reach new prospective volunteer drivers.

o Promoting DATA’s travel training program to partner organizations and other community-based programs to recruit prospective participants.

o Working with Fairfax County’s Department of Community and Neighborhood Services to promote the County’s TOPS program and other transportation services while working in the Fairfax portion of DATA’s service area.

· Initiate and conduct personal visits to target prospects.

· Prepare and conduct presentations for community groups and other organizations.

· Be proficient in using social media to highlight DATA’s enhanced mobility activities.

· Document and report activities to meet performance goals.

· Attend trade shows and/or host events to promote DATA’s suite of Enhanced Mobility services.

· Investigate and resolve client problems.

· Exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities.

· Prepare activities for monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

· Perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision.

· Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • The ideal candidate will:

- be a FLUENT Spanish speaker;

- be self-motivated, thrive in a small team environment, and be willing to take on new challenges;

- be flexible in approaching employers/clients and able to adapt to different circumstances to achieve results;

- be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks/employers at the same time; and

- have excellent oral and written communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and other technologies as necessary.

Additional considerations will include:

· Working knowledge in areas of client relationship building.

· Persuasive negotiation skills with emphasis in securing new volunteers.

· Comfortable making cold calls, making presentations, and speaking before groups.

· Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and ability to communicate in a professional manner with diverse audiences.

· Proven problem analysis, resolution and analytical skills.

· Ability to:

o prioritize and manage multiple projects/responsibilities while meeting stringent deadlines,

o communicate effectively orally and in writing,

o work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, as needed/directed,

o work collaboratively and cooperatively.

· Strong organizational skills; detail oriented.

· Reliable, dependable, flexible and responsive.

· Familiarity with TDM services desirable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in related field desirable.

· Ability to speak Spanish is a must.

· Zero to three (3) years of applicable experience.

· Equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Virginia driver license and access to automobile or to substantially equivalent alternative transportation.

· Willingness to learn to be a travel trainer (on the job training provided)

· This position is 80% remote work environment, applicant must be able to provide a good work situation to accomplish the requirements of the position.

COMPENSATION:

Paid sick leave and personal time off, federal holidays, flexible scheduling will be considered, and salary will be determined on qualifications. $22-27/hour
