A day in the life

The Coding Analyst is responsible for accurate maintenance and implementation of medical code sets within the system. This role leads the cross-functional new code implementation process and acts as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders on the appropriate application of new codes for claims, benefits, and reimbursement logic application within the platform. This role partners with internal stakeholders as a subject matter expert on appropriate billing/coding standards for system processing variances on claims or benefit enhancements.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Supports and provides guidance on business requirements to support accurate claims processing and enhance customer experiences.
  • Leads implementation of all code sets used for professional and facility claims within the system.
  • Creates, implements, audits, and advises internal customers on medical coding reimbursement policy business requirements for claims processing.
  • Creates and revises reimbursement coding system requirements, analyzes system impacts, completes system testing, and audits system logic.
  • Researches and compares new code structures, national correct coding guidelines, and specialty association guidelines to determine correct application of code sets.
  • Completes data analysis to create or revise medical coding reimbursement policies and payment integrity editing for identified system variances.
  • Contributes to news articles, coding reimbursement policies, and coding guideline creation or revisions to educate internal and external customers.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors Coding Specialists and collaborates with leadership to support strategic goals within the team.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
  • Addresses minor to moderate issues and refers complex issues to higher-level staff.

What you need to succeed

  • Coding certification including CPC, CPC-H, RHIT, CCSP or related from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • At least 3 years of experience with medical coding or billing analysis within a hospital, clinic or fully integrated health system or related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • Ability to use tools to identify meaningful patterns and draw conclusions.
  • Pays close attention to the details of all work and strives for a high level of accuracy.
  • Responds positively to a changing environment while maintaining work efficiency.

Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
