JOB
Signing Bonus of $5,000. An initial $2,500 signing bonus with the remaining $2,500 of the signing bonus paid upon completion of 2,080 hours of satisfactory service. Bonus must be paid back if employee leaves the department within one year of appointment. Bonus is limited to newly hired employees into state service in 2024. Current state employees are ineligible. Learn more at www.michigan.gov/LEO.Provides occupational safety consultation and advice to general industry businesses, unions, trade organizations, employee and employer associations, schools, colleges, municipalities, counties, and other state agencies in their assigned geographical area. Safety consultants complete a variety of professional tasks such as review and evaluate work practices and processes, equipment, policies and procedures, and safety and health management systems to assess adequacy of worker protection. Provides advice to employers in the implementation of programs to improve workplace safety. Consultants identify potential hazards, make recommendations to correct hazards, and help solve existing safety problems consistent with the requirements of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act and best practices. Occupational safety consultants develop, organize, and conduct safety training at the employer’s site. Consultants also assist with the design of course curriculum, develop course materials, and conduct training for the MIOSHA Training Institute (MTI).Work Coverage Area: Livingston, Washtenaw, and Lenawee Counties. Work Location: The OSA works from a home office (that is, their home). However, this is a field position that requires the establishment of the “Official Work Station for travel purposes in Livingston, Washtenaw, and Lenawee Counties..OSA 9-P11 Position DescriptionOSA 12 Position Description
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
EducationPossession of a bachelor's degree.Preferred: Possession of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene; OR a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and occupational safety and health experience where responsibilities involve the interpretation and application of safety and health standards, or safety and health regulations or equivalent.ExperienceOccupational Safety Advisor 9 No specific type or amount is required.Occupational Safety Advisor 10 One year of professional experience in assessing and providing remedies to occupational safety problems equivalent to an Occupational Safety Advisor 9.Occupational Safety Advisor P11Two years of professional experience in assessing and providing remedies to occupational safety problems equivalent to an Occupational Safety Advisor, including one year equivalent to an Occupational Safety Advisor 10.Occupational Safety Advisor 12Three years of professional experience in assessing and providing remedies to occupational safety problems equivalent to an Occupational Safety Advisor, including one year equivalent to an Occupational Safety Advisor P11.
