Wayne County Health Department is Hiring a Public Health Nurse Near Wooster, OH

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Are you tired of working long shifts, odd shifts, or doubles? Are you tired of using PTO for holidays and vacation? The Wayne County Health Department currently has an opening in our Community Health Division for a Public Health Nurse.

Typical work week is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. (With occasional evening and weekend work)

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

·May include, but not limited to school health, adult/child immunizations, vaccine and pubic health education, Children with Medical Handicaps, vision service referrals, naloxone distribution, outreach clinics, communicable disease reporting, HIV testing/education and more.

· Must be a current Nursing License pursuant to Section 4723.01 of the Ohio Revised Code

· 1 Year experience in public health nursing preferred, or equivalent nursing experience

· Valid driver’s license

· Critical thinking skills

· Knowledge of Infection Control Practices

· Observational skills

· Knowledge of Occupational Hazards and Safety Rules

· Patience, Compassion, Kindness

· Excellent Communication Skills

· Strong Leadership and ability to work Independently

REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Plans and manages patient care according to each patient’s needs through evaluation of medical histories and current health status

· Interviews patient and records their medical history and physical condition

· Obtains patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and/or temperature; obtains laboratory samples and readies these for testing

· Observes patient’s health

· Reviews medical chart

· Assist Physician and Registered Nurse

· Communicates with patient and their families

· Administers immunizations according to current ACIP, ODH and health department policy; administered treatment as needed

· Implements and Evaluates health programs (e.g. Project Dawn, VSP, TB)

· Implements Communicable Disease programs, and initiates appropriate follow up while adhering to ODH Communicable Disease manual

· Conducts Health Promotion service programs in community settings (e.g. public schools, Amish Parochial schools, preschool programs and physician offices)

· Presents Health Education, and coordinates/conducts health screening and services and completes all appropriate paperwork in a timely manner

· Represents agency in a positive professional manner

· Participates in other community health division and/or agency activities as assigned
