About NJTA

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway - two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. The NJTA is dedicated to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along their toll roads. Everyday, the Authority’s highways provide the safest, quickest, and most convenient routes for hundreds of commuters, truckers, and recreational travelers.

Works under the direction of a Toll Plaza Supervisor or Tolls Department Manager fulfilling the duties and re spo nsibiliti es a s outlined in the Toll Collector Manual, in order that toll revenue is accurately collected and properly secured.

• Performs a nd is responsible for classifying vehicles, proce ssing transactions and accurately collecting tolls from patrons.
• Performs and is responsible for properly sec uring collected and assigned funds.
• Performs and is responsible for maintaining good public relations with patrons of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
• Performs and is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the current toll collection operating procedures.
• Performs and is responsibl e for the proper care and maintenance of assigned property owned by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority .
• Performs and is responsible for adequate n ot ification to the proper location where lateness or absence will occur.
• In addition, in an emergency, a Toll Collector should exercise his own b es t judgement in handling situations which might arise for which no procedure is prescribed.
• Will direct all patron complaints to his /her s upervisor where assigned, or directly to the Authority.
