High Point Academy is a public charter school serving students preschool through 8th grade. Located in Aurora, CO, just north of Green Valley Ranch (10 minutes from Denver International Airport), HPA serves an ethnically diverse student population which includes 26% linguistically diverse students and 54% of students that qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. Summary: All employees of High Point Academy work together to achieve HPA's mission. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed below, we seek Learning Support Team Instructional Assistants who are collaborative with colleagues, empathetic in their relationships with students and families, and willing to work above and beyond their job description in order to ensure success for students. The Learning Support Team Instructional Assistant (LST/IA) is responsible for supporting the needs of the students in the school and for working with students, parents, other teachers and the Learning Support Team toward achieving the goals set forth in the High Point Academy Mission Statement.

Essential Duties-Coverage Paraprofessional

Cafeteria/School Lunch:

  • At the direction of the Dean, develop, implement, and monitor safety procedures for students during lunch and recess.
  • Work as a team with other coverage paras to develop systems and routines in the cafeteria that include a safe space for students with allergies, maximizing time for students to eat and creating an inclusive, organized, joyous environment for lunch.
  • Collaborate with the cafeteria staff to maintain systems and routines that allow all students to transition into the cafeteria, to tables with food, and from the cafeteria.
  • Maintain a clean, inviting cafeteria space for all students that meets health guidelines and school wide culture expectations.
  • Communicate frequently and clearly with Dean to continuously improve the cafeteria experience for all HPA students.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
  • Develops a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect with colleagues and students.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways.
  • Ability to multitask, self monitor multiple projects, and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Recess/Playground:

  • At the direction of the Dean, develop, implement, and monitor safety procedures for students during indoor and outdoor recess.
  • Work as a team with other coverage paras to develop systems and routines for inclusive, joyous, coordinated play for all students at recess. .
  • Collaborate with the Dean, RJ coordinators and counselors (when necessary) to maintain systems and routines that allow all students to transition to recess, through play stations (when offered/appropriate) and from the recess.
  • Utilize school wide culture program to set expectations during recess, recognize student leaders and proactively address safety concerns on the playground.
  • Attend required meetings that will include updates, training, and collaboration regarding lunch/recess responsibilities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Education or 3 years of experience in a school setting.
  • Proven ability to implement school-wide systems with K-8 students.

Compensation:

  • This position has 184 report days, beginning August 1st, 2024.
  • This is an part time hourly position. Hours are 10:00 am-2:00 pm
  • Hourly rate is $25.00.
