• Support students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
• Assist undergraduate students in determining educational plans, choosing courses, and exploring majors, minors, and career options.
• Identify educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist students with evaluating each option, including possible outcomes and their implications.
• Counsel students on options to satisfy degree requirements.
• Monitor students' academic progress, determine satisfactory progress toward a degree, and assist students in the completion.
• Identify current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring).
• Advise students with academic difficulty on the development of an academic action plan and agreement, and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed.
• Interpret and communicate department, College, and University policies and procedures to students.
• Approve and certify programs of study for the fulfillment of graduation requirements; approve and verify proposed changes to programs and assist students in their completion; determine if all requirements such as general education, major, grade point average, and total units have been met.
• Using a variety of University systems, maintain student files, records, and advisor notes and identify/remedy any potential systemic issues for the student.
• Maintain student and prospect records, including the accurate and timely documentation of all pertinent student information, and update computerized information systems regarding changes to student status.
• Interpret department, College, and University policies, procedures, and systems to students.
• Maintain knowledge of regulations and policies and systems that impact students' educational options.
• Advise on selective program admission and makes program admission decisions after careful consideration of application materials.
• Provide evidence and data-based input on admission, advising, recruitment and retention activities, academic programs, and course offerings as a member of the advising team.
• Provide comprehensive orientation experience to new students in a variety of formats.
• Work with community college and military serving institution advisors in an effort to facilitate the transfer of students.
• Coordinate with other UA advisors and Student Services staff to stay current with advising policies and procedures and provide consistent student services and advising.
• Coordinate with faculty and advising leadership on course availability, rotations, and transfer evaluations.
• Provide general assistance and information to students, the general public, and departments; confer with prospective transfer students regarding transferability of credits and admissions information.
• Serve as program liaison for AZ Online with campus and community partners including faculty.
• Build relationships with other colleges and student support departments to provide the best support to students.
• Routinely provide input regarding student data (such as enrollment and retention information) to college leadership.
• Collect and report prospective student data.
• Correspond with prospective students regarding academic programs, admissions, transferability of coursework, veterans’ benefits, and financial aid.
• Contribute to the development of web, print, and other recruitment materials.
