Perform emergency medical services while agreeing to attend and graduate from a Michigan Bureau of Fire Services (BFS) Regional Fire Training Center-Fire Academy resulting in BFS certification as Firefighter II.
Following BFS certification as Firefighter II, an employee will be trained to perform the following: respond to fire alarms with a fire company; prepare to fight fire by connecting hose to hydrants or pumps and joining hose sections and nozzles to hose; enter burning buildings and operate nozzle to direct stream of water on fires; operate equipment to facilitate entry into locked buildings through approved forcible entry methods; operate hand fire extinguishers and similar equipment in extinguishing fires; operate pumps to maintain an adequate water volume and pressure; raise, lower, and climb ladders; ventilate burning buildings to carry off smoke and gases; rescue individuals and provide appropriate emergency medical assistance; perform property conservation operations such as placing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris; may drive ladder trucks, pumper trucks, and emergency trucks in responding to fire alarms and in returning to the station; attend instruction sessions concerning firefighting methods, equipment operation, first aid, and street hydrant locations, and maintain good physical fitness; administer first response first aid to injured or afflicted persons; and perform other related work as assigned.
