City of Oxnard is Hiring a Fleet Services Worker Near Oxnard, CA

The City of Oxnard Public Works Department, Fleet Division, is seeking an experienced Fleet Services Worker with excellent technical and customer skills to perform routine vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and repair. 
Payroll/Classification Title: Fleet Services Worker  
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: 
Receives close supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 

This classification is distinguished from the Fleet Maintenance Technician in that it is focused on the repair and replacement of tires on heavy and light vehicles and equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 6:30am to 4:30pm and alternating Fridays 6:30am to 3:30pm. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. Work hours are subject to change based on operational needs. May be required to work holidays. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay. 

(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

  • Repairs damaged tires on heavy to light vehicles & equipment; removes and mounts vehicle wheels; rotates tires; balances wheels.

  • Inspects damaged or worn tires to locate puncture or related issue; determines need for tire repair or replacement.

  • Inspects brakes and suspension on vehicles being serviced and makes recommendations to Fleet Services Mechanic Senior.

  • Utilizes equipment to raise and lower vehicles; uses hand tools and other related equipment for tire repair and maintenance work.

  • Operates tire and balancing machines 

  • Cleans, organizes and maintains work site, tools and supplies; adheres to safety rules and regulations.

  • Prepares and maintains activity logs and work records; references and maintains equipment manuals and technical documentation. 

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: 

One (1) year of basic automotive experience related to repair/maintenance, tire repair, tire mounting and wheel balancing. 

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

DESIRABLE:If you do not currently possess this, the department will encourage you to obtain this within the first twelve (12) months of employment. The Department will cover the costs of obtaining them: 
  • Valid California Class A Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
  • ASE G1 Certification
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing

NOTE: For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work. 

Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions. 

Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis. 

This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
