Job Description
Salary: $30-$36/hour

TEA is hiring a part-time (20-25 hours a week) school counselor to join our Student Support Team to support the social-emotional wellness of pre-K-12-grade students. This position will work in conjunction with our current school counselor, newer graduates are encouraged to apply. 

Essential Functions:

  • Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional issues
  • Remain universally accessible and makes an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible
  • Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding social-emotional matters
  • Teach social-emotional lessons to classes and provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offer workshops for parents
  • Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific students through work with the student support team
  • Provide feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities
  • Assist students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures through individual education, class contracts, or individual behavioral or success plans
  • Provide short-term counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists
  • Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports
  • Support and attend appropriate student activities and events
  • Provide guidance, planning, and implementation of professional development opportunities
  • Complete data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges

Required Qualifications:

  • Pupil Personnel Services Credential - School Counseling
  • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the schools
  • Strong teaching ability with a clear enjoyment of working with children and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English, including excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues and a willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the CommuniTEA
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Strong interest in professional development opportunities
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  •  Willingness and ability to work in a demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
  •  Work primarily in outside weather conditions consistent with Lake Tahoe area weather
