Description

Release of Information Technician

STRIDE Community Health Center is a 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a 30-year history of providing primary care and other health-related services in a community-based setting. Established in 1989 in response to the primary health care needs of the medically indigent population in suburban Denver, STRIDE Community Health Center has one of the largest population base of any FQHC in Colorado and provides primary care, dental, pharmacy, behavioral health, health education, care coordination, patient navigation, pharmacy, and outreach and enrollment services in accordance with its mission.

Job Summary: Provides medical records and other pertinent information to our internal and external customers as authorized and as needed. Under minimal supervision releases and copies medical records for outside agencies, patients, courts etc. in an established process and procedure, following state and federal laws for legal release of health information. Duties include release of information for medical record requests and answering customer questions via telephone.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processes records for appointments, messages, lab reports and dictations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • • Responsible for the consistent, accurate disclosure of authorized protected health information while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, HIPAA, and ACA rules regarding release of information and privacy of patient records
  •  Reviews authorizations requested for patient information to ensure all required elements are complete.
  • Confirms regulatory requirements are met and the requesting party authorizing the disclosure is appropriate.
  • Performs timely communication to requestor if authorization is not valid, unable to process as received.
  • Ensures the integrity of records released.
  • Responsible for the human, financial, and material resources as well as data and information entrusted to us.
  • Enhances the effectiveness; efficiency and productivity of the department by contributing to, and participating in, departmental performance improvement goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


A successful candidate will possess the following education or formal training:

Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:
1-3 years Two years of clerical experience. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement. Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Ability to interact positively and build rapport with patients, coworkers, and external contacts.

· Ability to work independently in a manner that ensures accuracy and efficiency.

· Ability to respond to the needs and concerns of STRIDE’s diverse patient population.

· Excellent Customer Service skills including ability to defuse upset customers.

· Proficiency in a variety of software including but not limited to the internet, Microsoft 365 applications, and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
