Description

Summary

The HSE and Facilities Specialist is responsible to plan, coordinate and direct the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management Systems for a business unit, providing guidance and support in the following areas: safety engineering, safe work practices, risk control, training, management practices, facilities coordination and conformance to HSE standards. The position will help lead and coordinate facility improvement projects to ensure the safe and effective operation of the facility systems. This position is responsible for the continuous operation and improvement of HSE policy, ensuring corporate initiatives are understood and implemented inside the business unit.

Essential Functions

  • Partners with local and corporate leadership to deliver site HSE and site objectives
  • Ensures an on-the-floor presence in clean room production areas to lead and facilitate employee engagement in safety
  • Interacts and partners with contractors, engineering staff to drive facilities objectives
  • Recommends facility improvement to ensure safe operations
  • Develops and implements training processes for occupational health & safety management system
  • Develops, monitors, and reports key HSE metrics
  • Addresses industrial hygiene concerns
  • Develops and updates documentation for the Safety Management System
  • Leads the site safety committee (agenda development, writes meeting minutes, develops appropriate action plans, follows up with leadership when necessary to achieve committee goals)
  • Drives, supports, and participates in incident investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up activities
  • Develops and recommends an annual budget
  • Reviews capital expenditure requests to ensure appropriate safety measures are considered
  • Manages hazardous waste disposal, tracking and reporting, related documentation, and Safety Data Sheets
  • Serves as the Company representative for federal, state, and local HSE agency inspections and ensures compliance to standards
  • Maintains the First Responder Team in a state of readiness for first aid, small fires, and incidental spills
  • Partners with Human Resources for workers compensation case management, and return-to-work accommodations
  • Serves as the SME for safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, environment, and fire protection
  • Supports a three-shift operation - primary work hours will be on day shift
  • Serves as site project coordinator for facility improvement and maintenance projects
  • Coordinates with corporate and external engineering teams

Other Duties

  • Adheres to GMP/QSR requirements and follows applicable QMS documentation (e.g., SOP’s, Work Instructions) to successfully accomplish job requirements
  • Follows Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies and procedures, including wearing hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, eye protection as required
  • Follows gowning procedures in designated areas
  • Follows established safety requirements and adheres to the Safety Management System
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned
  • Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where the ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required
  • Receives no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments

Physical Demands

  • Travel between company facilities, occasionally or as needed
  • Requires good manual dexterity for a range of motions (standing, walking, bending, reaching)
  • Lift, pull and push up to 50lbs
  • Requires the ability to regularly perform repetitive motions
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand through the duration of a shift
  • May require on-call duties and adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to respond to emergencies

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a medical device, pharmaceutical or other manufacturing environment
  • Current safety certification, or actively working toward, a certification in the safety field (CSP, CIH, etc.), a plus
  • 3-10 years of HSE experience, preferred
  • Experience with facilities, maintenance, engineering or construction related activities, preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish, a plus
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and requirements
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups
  • Ability to analytically solve problems and provide clear direction to others for problem resolution
  • Ability to identify, recommend and implement process improvements
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop solutions, then track until resolved
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, required
  • Customer service focus and professionalism
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
