Metro is Hiring a Medical Technician (Variable-Hour) Near Portland, OR

Position Summary

The Oregon Convention Center is the largest convention facility in the Pacific Northwest, attracting out-of-town visitors to national conventions, tradeshows and meetings, and local people to special events. The convention center's roughly 160 employees host more than 1 million visitors each year.

The Oregon Convention Center is looking to hire Medical Technicians. Come work in an enjoyable and fun event-driven environment with flexible hours. Medical Technicians typically may average 4 - 10 hours weekly, but actual hours will vary from week to week and with seasonal event volume. During events at Oregon Convention Center, the Medical Technician provides emergency care and medical assistance to injured or sick persons; assesses injuries and illnesses. The primary work location for this role will be at the Oregon Convention Center, but there could be times you work at other Metro venues.

While our Medical Technicians are required to respond to and provide medical assistance during serious emergencies, you'll find the majority of our medical calls tend to be non-life threatening in nature. Medical Technicians also spend a fair amount of the work time acting as general ambassadors by regularly interacting with the public to answer questions, give directions and provide non-medical assistance. Successful candidates should be dependable, knowledgeable enjoy interacting with the public and act with a sense of urgency. Work may also be performed at other Metro venues as needed.

As the Medical Technician you will:

* Responds to medical emergencies and provides medical assistance to injured or sick persons on facility premises; attends to ailments and medical conditions such as chest pains, shortness of breath, asthma, allergic reaction, etc.

* Assesses non-emergency injuries and illness; provides first aid and medical intervention to persons injured on the agency's premises.

* Determines the severity of illness or injury; initiates call to 911 as the situation requires.

* Maintains first aid/medical supplies and equipment inventory; ensures adequate stock of medical supplies and equipment; processes requests for replenishment of stock as needed.

* Ensures medical equipment is in proper working condition; cleans and sanitizes equipment as needed.

* Ensures proper disposal of biohazard materials.

* Acts as a resource to injured and sick persons by providing information with regard to the location of urgency clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms, etc. for further evaluation.

* Completes documentation and reports with regard to first aid, medication and treatment provided.

* Performs work in accordance with established protocols, policies, practices and procedures of the department.

* Provides top-notch customer service to attendees and employees of the convention center at all times.

* Dispenses over-the-counter medications upon request.

* Performs other duties, which may be necessary or desirable to support the agency's success.

* Work assigned schedule and exhibit regular and predictable attendance.

* Work in a safe manner and follow safety policies, practices and procedures.

* Comply with Metro and Metro's visitor venues policies, procedures and applicable work rules; applicable law and collective bargaining agreements as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Current and valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, AND

* Current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification, AND

* A minimum of two (2) years of experience in emergency medical response, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties.

Note: A physical assessment, which simulates the essential job tasks for this position, will be administered to all applicant "finalists" for any Security Agent position. Offers of hire will be made contingent upon successful results of the assessment.

Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro's internal equity review process, and the candidates' qualifications, the appointment will typically be made at $24.17. The full-salary range for this position is $24.17 - $31.60 per hour.

This position is classified as a Medical Technician (click to read the full classification). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the position(s). Medical Technicians working an average of four hours or more per week are represented by ILWU, Local 28. Medical Technicians working less than four hours per week are not represented.
