Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a full-time Dean of Culture at Deer Path Middle School.

Description: The Dean of Culture provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the intentional development and implementation of the processes needed to support the academic, social, emotional and character growth of all students at Deer Path Middle School. The dean understands and responds to the diverse needs of students, staff, and families in the community. The dean works in partnership with all school personnel, students, staff and parents. The dean demonstrates a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication among all stakeholders. Skills, habits, and attitudes that demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and concerns of others are essential. The dean evaluates situations through a proactive lens and models and supports the concept of intrinsic, rather than extrinsic motivation. The dean has a strong commitment and belief that discipline is an opportunity to teach. The Dean of Culture works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of the principal, in partnership, with the Directors of Innovation and Special Services. The Dean is evaluated using the Danielson Framework for Teachers and is a member of the Lake Forest Teacher Association.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as a resource for staff, administrators and parents when working with students to create a positive school climate that fosters the development of a positive self-concept for all students
  • Coordinates and co-facilitates all District 67 efforts related to school culture, climate, character education, social-emotional well being and behavioral initiatives
  • Motivates students in a positive direction that will allow them to increase individual decision-making responsibilities
  • Develops, implements and monitors a goal setting process for all students in academic and social-emotional areas
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students
  • Responds to parent, student and staff concerns in a supportive and timely manner
  • Participates in informal classroom visitations in order to provide recommendations and suggestions, in a non-evaluative manner, that will help teachers build stronger relationships with individual students or the class at large
  • Monitors, organizes, and provides leadership in the area of attendance improvement efforts
  • Meets regularly with groups of students to gain insight into their perceptions about how the DPM culture is supporting their academic, social, emotional and character development
  • Facilitates parent, staff, and student “Lunch and Learns” that focus on ideas related to social, emotional and character development
  • Develops surveys for parents, staff, and students regarding topics they would like to discuss
  • Co-facilitates professional learning, as well as models on how to effectively implement Foundations and Champs.
  • Facilitates and implements all activities related to school-wide emergency preparedness initiatives

Qualifications:

  • A current Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • LBS I endorsement - preferred

  • Demonstrates ability to accept feedback and act upon it
  • Understands and applies systems thinking as it relates to the social, emotional and behavioral well being of all stakeholders
