The Senior Counsellor will provide case work, counselling, and trauma-focused therapy to clients in need of support. This role requires a skilled professional with significant experience in the social services sector who can work autonomously and as part of a team. The Senior Counsellor will provide clinical supervision and lead trauma-related programs, while also overseeing outreach initiatives and facilitating group work. Additionally, they will also ensure the effective management of client cases, including home-based counselling, regular follow-ups, assessments, and report writing. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders and external agencies to mobilise resources to support client needs.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide case work and counselling services, including trauma-focused therapy to clients
  • Provide home-based counselling
  • Support clients through the full spectrum of case management, from initial assessment to post-therapy follow up, ensuring regular communication to track progress and offer ongoing therapeutic support
  • Supervise and support junior staff, offering guidance, training and clinical supervision to ensure quality care delivery
  • Build and maintain strong rapport with relevant stakeholders, including external agencies to mobilise resources to meet client’s needs
  • Participate in outreach activities to promote trauma-informed care within the community and raise awareness about the department’s services
  • Conduct trauma-related programmes and trainings

Requirements

  • A degree in Psychology, Counselling, or a related field (relevant work experience will be considered)
  • Minimum 5 years in the social service sector, including 2 years of clinical supervision.
  • Strong clinical skills and familiarity with trauma-informed practices or attachment theories
  • Good understanding of parenting, family dynamics, and caring of children with social issues
  • Bilingual, with good communication and interpersonal skills (proficiency in Malay language will be a plus as the role requires interaction with a diverse clientele)
  • Good leadership skills or willing to grow in management skills.
  • Good team player with positive and growth mindset
  • Able to multi-task and open to learning
  • Able to work during weekends and evenings, when required (Time-off will be given)
