Job Description:

Patient Interaction and Preparation:

• Explain procedures:Clearly explain the blood draw procedure to patients, answering their questions and addressing any concerns or anxieties.
• Patient Identification:Verify patient identity and confirm the correct test orders before proceeding.
• Comfort and Care:Make patients feel as comfortable as possible during the procedure, especially those who may be nervous about needles or have phobias.

2. Blood Sample Collection:

• Venipuncture and Capillary Puncture:Perform venipuncture (drawing blood from a vein) or capillary punctures (drawing blood from the finger) using appropriate techniques.
• Proper Technique:Follow aseptic techniques and safety protocols to ensure accurate sample collection and prevent contamination.
• Sample Labeling:Properly label and document all collected samples, including patient information, date, time, and test orders.

3. Sample Handling and Storage:

• Specimen Integrity:Maintain the integrity of blood samples by using proper handling and storage procedures.
• Transport and Processing:Prepare samples for laboratory testing or storage, ensuring they are transported safely and efficiently.

4. Record Keeping and Documentation:

• Data Entry:Enter collected sample information into a database, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
• Maintaining Records:Maintain accurate and organized patient records, including phlebotomy procedures and test results.

5. Other Responsibilities:

• Supply Management:Maintain an organized and stocked phlebotomy station with necessary supplies and equipment.
• Equipment Maintenance:Ensure that all equipment and instruments are clean, disinfected, and properly maintained.
• Safety and Sanitation:Adhere to strict safety and sanitation protocols to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
