This position performs technical duties in the repair and maintenance of city buildings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Inspects city buildings and facilities for repair and maintenance needs.• Performs HVAC maintenance and repair.• Repairs and maintains plumbing systems.• Makes carpentry repairs.• Repairs and maintains mechanical equipment.• Orders building maintenance materials and supplies.• Inspects fire alarms and fire extinguishers.• Schedules and inspects work performed by outside contractors.• Responds to after-hours emergencies.• Performs minor electrical repairs.• Performs painting and drywall repair.• Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems.• Assists with snow and ice removal operations.• Performs related duties.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of general building maintenance.• Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical system maintenance and repair principles.• Knowledge of carpentry construction and repair principles.• Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and safety regulations.• Skill in reading blueprints and schematic drawings.• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.• Skill in problem solving.• Skill in prioritizing and planning.• Skill in interpersonal relations.• Skill in oral and written communication.
