What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Greater Des Moines Partnership?
The Controller will oversee, with the direction of Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, the following accounting functions for all entities under the umbrella of The Partnership and those we provide services for, where applicable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Overall responsibility for month-end close checklist deadlines

Accounts Payable
- Invoice, employee reimbursement processing
- Corporate Credit Card processing
- 1099s

Accounts Receivable
- Creation and posting of outgoing invoices, as needed.
- Deposits
- Report investor payments to Investor Relations team.
- Report sponsorships and vendor payments to Downtown Events Group team.
- Prepare and file Sales Tax returns.
- Asset and liability balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Make needed adjusting entries in general ledger as needed.
- Assist CFAO with monthly financial statement distribution to leadership.
- Assist CFAO with annual budget.
- Lead annual audits for all entities.
- Assist with continuous review of processes and ways to innovate and educate.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- MBA or CPA desired, but not required.
- 5-7 years of experience in the field of accounting with at least 2 of those years in a leadership role.
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Experience with accounting software. GP Microsoft Dynamics is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong analytical abilities.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Highly adaptable and can work well with others and within a team, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
