The position provides direct support to the Supply Chain Manager and acts as a primary point of contact between suppliers and the business. Other duties include monitoring supplier performance and supporting logistics functions. Responsibilities:
- A raw material buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the inventory of raw materials that are used in the production of goods or services. Will also assist in production and project planning as needed.
- Initiate RFQ's to suppliers based on project requirements for raw materials as well as subcontract labor.
- Experience with forgings including steel, titanium a plus.
- Create purchase orders based on competitive supplier bidding, and project schedule.
- Create conversion orders (subcontract labor) through in-house production orders based on shop capabilities, and shop capacity to ensure on time project delivery.
- Experience with outside processing including machine shops, coaters and lab testing.
- Placing orders and tracking shipments of raw materials, verifying invoices and payments, and resolving any issues or discrepancies.
- Negotiating terms with suppliers, ensuring quality, quantity, delivery, and cost requirements are met.
- Collaborating with production, engineering, quality, and finance departments to ensure raw material availability and specifications are aligned with the project plan and budget.
- Evaluating supplier performance and developing long-term relationships with strategic partners.
- Develop vendor relationships in effort to identify cost saving opportunities through processes such as vendor-based inventory.
- Assist in identifying potential new supplier candidates in support of in-house production.
- Participate in physical inventory and cycle counts including conducting counts, count audits and review of variances.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering or other related field.
- 5 years as a material buyer.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in procurement, subcontract labor sourcing as well as production planning and shipping.
- Familiar with Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
- Familiar with contracts, blueprints/engineering drawings.
- Strong background in procurement of raw material such as forging, tubing and pipe needed.
- Must possess ability to interpret machine and weld drawings as well as material specifications and bills of material.
- Familiarity of a machine shop, and fabrication shop environment.
- Familiar with ISO, API, and ASTM certification and process.
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Must be able to work in the office.
- Must be adaptable and able to operate effectively in a rapidly changing work environment.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office products and ERP systems.

- This position will require working 20% outdoors and 80% indoors in a smoke-free office and manufacturing facility.
- Limited travel will be required to support offsite personnel and business projects.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in the office performing work on a computer. Employee will be required to walk and be on the manufacturing floor.
