Position Overview:
Huntsville College Preparatory School (HCPS) seeks an enthusiastic and creative Middle School English Teacher to guide students in grades 7-8. The ideal candidate will inspire a love of reading, writing, and language while supporting the unique needs of students, including those with learning differences. With small class sizes and a student-centered approach, the teacher will create engaging lessons that develop literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills in a nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum aligned with state and school standards.
  • Teach foundational and advanced skills in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary development.
  • Introduce students to diverse literary genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama.
  • Encourage creativity and critical thinking through writing assignments, group discussions, and projects.
  • Tailor lessons to meet the individual needs of students, including those with learning differences.
  • Regularly assess student progress using assignments, quizzes, projects, and participation, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom environment that celebrates student diversity and promotes collaboration.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about student growth, challenges, and achievements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and community-building activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching middle school students; experience with students with learning differences is a plus.
  • Strong ability to create engaging, differentiated lesson plans that meet diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction to enhance learning.
