Based out of Hyde’s Analytical Laboratory, the EHS Specialist is a pivotal role within Hyde responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Hyde's comprehensive health and safety programs. Reporting to the Director of Hyde’s Analytical Lab, this role ensures our staff operates, globally, in a safety-conscious environment, adheres to all internal and regulatory standards, and embraces a culture of safety.

Key functions include being responsible for maintaining a robust Safety program and in ensuring safety is incorporated within Hyde processes and policies, for communicating hazards to Hyde staff as identified and proactively, and for developing and monitoring compliance with Hyde safety procedures and training.
Duties:
- Conducts safety gap assessments for the Hyde global organization and lab
- Develops new safety activities, equipment procedures, and engineering controls
- Recommends corrective action where EHS hazards or risks exist, including hazards related to equipment that may pose a safety risk
- Leads disaster recovery FMEA risk assessment activities
- Communicates with local emergency responders regarding Hyde Analytical Laboratory layout/hazards
- Responsible for tasks associated with waste generator status, including communicating and registering with the EPA and the state
- Responsible for laboratory lone worker procedures and responds to safety-related incidents in the laboratory
- Coordinates/manages hazardous waste management disposal activities, including scheduling, audit of manifests, calculating average monthly volume generation, and monitoring hazardous waste removal vendors
- Performs periodic inspections of waste container inspections, safety inspections and of equipment.
- Monitors environmental compliance and industrial health and safety programs (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness, and injury prevention)
- Serves as Safety Officer for muster point in the event of evacuation
- Coordinates and leads initial and annual lab safety training, including Hazcom, workplace, fire extinguisher, and AED training, while serving as the administrator of third-party safety training systems.
- Maintains and updates global safety documents, ensuring training materials are current and comprehensive.
- Establishes and maintains the material hazard assessment program, including the paper-based MHA and SDS library in the lab
- Drafting of Material Hazard Assessments (MHAs) for chemicals and samples entering the laboratory
- BS degree or higher in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or in a relevant technological field
- 5-10 years of EHS experience in the pharmaceutical industry, micro experience preferred
- EHS training and certification
- Strong understanding of hazcom, PPE, engineering controls, waste streams, accidental release measures, and health-based exposure limits
- Working knowledge of Hazard Communication
- Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and Colorado hazardous waste management division requirements
- Demonstrated ability to make safety-related decisions based on experience and regulatory understanding
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with DOT requirements or training preferred
- Formal fire extinguisher training preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work individually or in a team setting
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft Office products
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
