What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front Desk Staff position at Interfaith Community Shelter?
Job Summary:
The Front Desk is responsible for day-to-day functions to ensure safe and responsive operations at Consuelo’s Place shelter. This position is responsible for inventory and providing items to clients including narcan, hygienic items, toiletries, and household items on hand. Front Desk staff are responsible for disseminating snacks and meals to clients. Position is responsible for answering the front desk phone and assisting clients with miscellaneous questions and responding to emergencies, as needed. The Front Desk staff reports to the Front Desk Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Work shift work, either from 8 am-4pm (weekdays/weekends), or 3 pm-11 pm (weekdays/weekends), or 10:30 pm-8:30 am, for 7 days a week total coverage.
- Cleans rooms for all clients, including sheltered, medical respite, and quarantine/covid clients in between client stays.
- Completes room searches, documents safety violations, and documentation of searches and seized contraband.
- Monitors facility repair needs and notifies supervisor, as needed.
- Monitors client behavior and makes recommendations to Shelter Manager regarding possible disciplinary recommendations.
- Ensures meals, snacks, and drinks are on hand for clients at the Facility.
- Answers the front desk phone and responds with a customer service mentality.
- Arranges for transportation for clients to medical appointments and assists clients with needs, as requested.
- Ensure common areas and rooms are cleaned between residents, including quarantine, and safety measures are enacted by staff cleaning the rooms.
- Monitors donations and requests for donations as well as client belongings in storage.
- Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager and/or Front Desk Manager.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: None required, customer service, trauma-informed care, harm reduction techniques, experience with persons experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health recommended.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of homelessness, addiction, trauma-informed care, and comprehension and compliance of basic operating procedures
- Knowledge of food handling techniques
- Skill in the use of Microsoft suite systems.
- Skill in talking with others to convey information
- Skill in active listening
- Skill in reading comprehension and writing effectively
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, ie fire alarms, need for medical assistance, etc.
- Characteristic of self-control in regulating emotions
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Work is normally performed in a typical office environment. Sitting for excessive periods of time with daily
use of computer, phone, and other office equipment; intermittent keyboarding required. Ability to lift
approximately 25 pounds, stand, bend over and stoop, may be required.

Full-time, benefits eligible position. Pay range is $16.50-18.50/hr, Schedule is 8 hr shifts, 8 am- 4pm, or 3 pm-11 pm, 1030 pm-830am, weekend schedule possible.
