Position Summary:
The ED charge abstractor II will be experienced in and participate in abstracting facility Evaluation and Management levels and charge capture in accordance to CMS and NCHS principles and conventions under limited supervision by management. Communicates with Medical Staff and Hospital staff to improve the documentation to support the coding process.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews the medical record to ensure the clinical documentation supports all billed Emergency Department (ED) charges
- Analysis of records to identifying the discrepancies in the ED documentation reporting findings and identify resolutions
- Works with management it identify opportunities for workflow and documentation improvement
- Accurately abstracts records to capture charges per the department's productivity and quality standards
- Educates staff and providers on the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field of ED Abstraction
- Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Works under limited supervision
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Coding certification required; AAPC or AHIMA
- 1 year hospital coding experience required ; 3 years' preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and E/M documentation
- Proficient computer skills
- 3M encoder experience preferred
- Epic knowledge preferred
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to maintain a sitting position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical and office job
- Remote eligible
