- Blocking and Staging: Help the Director by setting and adjusting blocking (actors' movements on stage) and staging during rehearsals.
- Directing Actors: Provide additional guidance to actors in terms of character development, motivations, and delivery of lines or songs.
- Liaising with Cast and Crew: Act as the main point of contact between the Director and the cast, crew, and creative team to ensure everyone is on the same page.
- Relaying Information: Communicate updates, changes, and notes from the Director to the cast and production team.
- Helping with Creative Decisions: Collaborate with the Director in refining the creative elements, ensuring that the Director’s vision is implemented on stage.
- Assisting with Auditions: Help with the audition process by overseeing some parts of it, such as reading lines or providing feedback to performers.
- Organizing Rehearsal Schedules: Assist in creating, updating, and managing rehearsal schedules to ensure everything runs on time.
- Problem-Solving: Help manage any unforeseen issues during rehearsals or performances (e.g., cast injuries, technical difficulties).
- Coordinating Cast and Crew: Ensure that the cast and crew are in the right places at the right times, following the rehearsal schedule and timelines.
- Managing Paperwork: Handle documentation such as rehearsal reports, schedules, and script revisions.
- Set and Costume Management: Assist in making sure that set pieces, costumes, and props are in place and organized for rehearsals and performances.
- Addressing Issues During Shows: If something goes wrong during a performance (e.g., a missed cue or prop malfunction), assist in resolving the issue discreetly.
- Working with Technicians: Collaborate with sound, lighting, and set designers to ensure technical elements align with the vision and needs of the production.
- Cue Tracking: Ensure all technical cues (e.g., lighting, sound, music) are properly timed and executed during rehearsals and performances.
- Providing Notes: Provide constructive feedback to the cast and crew on their performances, often focusing on areas that need improvement.
- Supporting the Director: Offer suggestions or help troubleshoot problems during the rehearsal or production process, making sure the Director’s direction is followed.
- Script and Score Management: Ensure the cast has up-to-date scripts, scores, and any other necessary rehearsal materials.
- Concessions Support: Provide support in the creative process of concessions for intermission, and before/after show.
- School Policy: Conveys the policies of the team, local school, and MPCS (e.g. regulation on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra-Curricular Activities) to all participants.

POSITION: Spring Musical Assistant Director

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director supports the Director in the overall vision and execution of the musical. This includes assisting with blocking, rehearsals, coordinating cast and crew, and ensuring that the creative and logistical aspects of the show run smoothly. The Assistant Director works with performers to help them understand their roles, refine their performances, and stay on schedule. They also collaborate with designers, technicians, and other members of the creative team to ensure that all elements of the production (such as staging, music, and choreography) are integrated effectively.This job reports to the Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
