BREATHE Program Consultant Position
The BREATHE Program Consultant (2 positions) is responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of the Building Resilience, Education, Accountability, and Trust for Health Empowerment (BREATHE) Program at North Andover High School. This program provides a supportive, restorative environment for students facing challenges with unsafe health choices, particularly vaping. The consultants ensure the program aligns with restorative practices, legal regulations, and district goals, promoting healthier decision-making and successful reintegration into the school community.
Key Responsibilities
Program Administration
- Oversee the daily operations of the BREATHE Program, ensuring compliance with program guidelines and district policies.
- Coordinate the implementation of evidence-based curricula, such as Catch My Breath and Character Strong.
- Develop individualized restorative plans for students, incorporating frameworks like Dr. Ross Greene’s Collaborative Problem Solving or CORE Pathways to Problem Solving.
- Monitor and evaluate the program's effectiveness, making adjustments to meet the evolving needs of students and staff.
Student Support
- Facilitate educational and restorative activities, emphasizing health education, executive functioning, self-regulation, and decision-making skills.
- Guide students through reflective exercises to understand the consequences of their actions and develop accountability.
- Provide academic support to ensure students remain on track with coursework during their time in the program.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with administration, nursing staff, guidance counselors, special education teachers, and caregivers to create a multidisciplinary support system for students.
- Communicate with parents or caregivers regarding student progress, program expectations, and any concerns that arise.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA guidelines, while adhering to mandatory reporting laws.
Behavioral Intervention
- Address behavioral concerns, including refusals or elopements, following the established protocol for contact, suspension hearings, and program reentry requirements.
- Promote restorative practices to prevent recurrences and equip students with the skills to succeed in the general school setting.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and program outcomes.
- Prepare reports for school administration and district leadership, detailing the program's impact and areas for improvement.
Professional Development
- Stay informed of current best practices in restorative justice, health education, and behavioral intervention.
- Provide training and resources to staff on the principles and practices of the BREATHE Program.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience working in educational settings, particularly with restorative practices or behavioral interventions.
- Familiarity with evidence-based curricula, such as Catch My Breath or Character Strong, is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage students, staff, and caregivers.
- Ability to create and implement restorative plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive information.
