Job Summary
Early Intervention Assistants will be trained to assist in the Petersburg City Public Schools early intervention eligibility screening process in grades K-2. Early Intervention Instructional Assistants will receive required professional development and training prior to conducting academic interventions and screening using research based methodology in reading and/or math in grades K-2. The K-2 Early Intervention Instructional Assistant will be responsible for working with the classroom teacher, Title I school based and district level staff to collect and analyze a variety of data sources to determine if strategies are improving academic outcomes for students.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provides small group instruction.
Communicates with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading level and rate of progress.
Differentiates instruction based on assessment data. Upon request and availability; participates in team reviews concerning academic progress for students receiving services.
Shares student data with applicable teachers and administration.
Provides pre and post-assessment data to teachers and administrators.
Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
Maintains accurate records and documentation.
Follows required procedures and practices outlined in training and the district.
Attends all required training. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
Administers informal and formal assessments outlined in the intervention program.
Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional program objectives. Manages classroom organization.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma required, associate's degree in education or a related field preferred
Three to five years of experience working as an instructional assistant is highly preferred
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team
Considerable patience and the ability to work effectively with children and faculty members are essential
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and to perform all required tasks
