ROANE GENERAL HOSPITAL - Full-Time Nurse Practitioner
Roane General Hospital in Spencer, WV a 60 bed Critical Access Hospital with 35 SNF/ICF beds, 25 acute care beds, Level IV Trauma Emergency Department, three Rural Health Clinics and a walk-in clinic is currently seeking applicants for a Full-Time Nurse Practitioner for the RGMC Walk-In Clinic.
SUMMARY
The mid-level provider shall augment the physician's data gathering, assess, conceptualize, diagnose, analyze, plan, implement and evaluate complex problems related to health. They perform community and/or school health promotion disease prevention as directed. They shall collaborate with the physician according to prescriptive authority guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform community and/or school health promotion disease prevention activities as directed.
Screen patients to determine the need for medical attention.
Review patient records to determine health status.
Take a patient history.
Perform a physical examination.
Perform developmental screening examinations on children.
Record pertinent patient data.
Make decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatment of patients being seen for the initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition.
Prepare patient summaries.
Initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory studies.
Collect specimens for and carry out commonly performed blood, urine, stool analyses and cultures.
Identify normal and abnormal findings in history, physical examination and commonly performed laboratory studies. Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations; i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, injuries, burns, and hemorrhage.
Perform clinical procedures within the scope of practice such as: venipuncture, start IV access, care and suturing of minor lacerations, splinting, control of external hemorrhages, application of bandages and dressing, removal of superficial foreign bodies, series medications, etc
Arrange for or refer patients to needed services not provided at the Clinic.
Participate in the development, execution, and periodic review of written policies governing the service of the Clinic.
Collects and maintains statistics on the number of patients served and volume of services with assistance from care coordinator.
Develops Policy and Procedures as they relate to School Based Health Center.
Oversees quality assurance audits and evaluation of services, etc., as performed by patient care coordinator.
Assist the Medical Director in a periodic review of the patient's health records.
Treat patients and prescribe medication within guidelines of patient protocol and within scope of practice.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Completion of an approved nurse practitioner/mid-level provider program.
Must have a knowledge of interpersonal skills.
Must be flexible and willing to learn new skills.
Ability to relate well to patients as well as medical staff.
Must possess and express a concern for patients.
Strong personal initiative required.
In all matters, must observe the confidentiality of patient records and information.
